What would a Cricket and Metro footprint look like? Maybe they could be the fifth national carrier???

Even combining Metro & Cricket, there would be about 6 million customers total.
Alltel & USCC would still have larger rural coverage, larger footprints, and more customers,

Alltel is in 5th with about 12 million customers, USCC in 6th with almost 6.5 million customers.

So a Metro & Cricket combo would be the 7th largest national carrier.

I don't care about customer numbers. What would their footprint look like, population coverage, not customers.

Population coverage, well the urban parts would be covered, but rural areas, not so well.

If you look at Cricket's national coverage map, it would be someting like that,
you'd have to be in one of those green or orange circles, otherwise your out of luck.

They would probably cover a potental 100 million people.

I Don't know that much more info on the subject, but I'll find out more soon.

Hope this helps.

........................

Just add metro's areas to this map.

Alltel+USCC+Metro+Cricket?

It could happen, I suppose. Alltel went private for a reason. TPG and Goldman Sachs have access to a lot of money.

USCricketrotel? I wonder if they'd be based in NewSanFraKota?

In other spectrum auction-related goings on, some consumer groups are investigating why nobody bought the D-Block.

Quote:
Consumer watchdog groups and some lawmakers want to know why the block of spectrum reserved for public safety in the Federal Communications Commission's 700 MHz auction didn't hit its reserve price.

On Wednesday, a coalition of nine consumer advocacy groups, including the Consumer Federation of America, Consumers Union and the Media Access Project, sent a letter to the chairman of the FCC asking the agency to investigate whether the public safety requirements for "d" block license were too stringent. The groups also want the FCC to study whether plans for the shared public-private network are even still viable.

But consumer groups aren't the only ones concerned that the d block didn't sell. House Energy and Commerce Committee Chairman John D. Dingell (D-Mich.) and telecommunications subcommittee chairman Edward J. Markey (D-Mass.) are already planning a hearing for early next month to consider whether the public-private partnership model for building the wireless network for emergency responders should be changed or if the reserve price should be lowered.

Maybe they should lower the Buy Now price on the D block.

yeah really cuz......honestly the D-Black benefits the government.......not the carrier that receives it.....

some questions about the D-Block.........the carrier would have to build an emergency system using that spectrum there but would it be permitted for commercial use as well......and who would use it as an emergency system..........all emergencyu personnel on local, state and federal levels???

Oh, I imagine whatever carrier finally gets D block will get government subsidies and be able to make money to operate it so it will be a win-win situation. I just don't think anybody wants to deal with it right now.

The worst part is that it's aimed right at Cheyenne, Wyoming!!!

Now back on topic...It's too bad the Metro/Leap merger didn't work out.

Being from Michigan I can tell you right now Rep. Dingell is a wacko and won't do anything to actually help the consumer...

But really the reserve should be lowered....

Some perspective

Sprint cost without extra incentive $17.67B
Metro PCS .... 5.43 B
US Cellular 2.94 B
Cricket 2.9 B
ACS Wireless 540 Million
Cellcom is private dunno value not as much as ACS I believe.

P/E paid 27.5 billion with a 10 percent incentive. Alltel's worth at the time roughly 25 B.......

Cricket is in many many more markets than MetroPCS,
so I can't see how Metro is actually worth more than Cricket, but I believe it.

This perspective makes it seem to me like Alltel is a much larger, more powerful company than Sprint.
Remember, GS & TPG have plenty of cash, and could do lots of good things for Alltel.

When you combine GS & TPG's value & revenue isn't it way more than than most of the wireless industry combined?

Metro covers much more population.

I think that if Metro, USCC, and Leap merged they would have most of the the top major markets covered. I think a nationwide prepaid plan of fifty bucks a month for LD and nationwide on network usage with an additional ten for voice mail, Caller ID and Call waiting would do well in the competition and turn a nice profit.
