after looking at the entire winning bidders one winner made no sense and I never heard of them

King Street Wireless, L.P.

after trying to find some info about them through google it looks like the are a Subsidiary of USCellular and they picked up 400 million worth of apectrum.

I saw that Verizon Wireless got only $1,131,909,000 worth of spectrum in the Great Lakes region. So does this mean that maybe in a few years VZW might build out up here in Northern Michigan more?

I guess Big Red was hungry and swallowed up some "C" block...

I'm betting this will help them towards their LTE 4G path.

AT&T did pretty well themselves.

Even though the big 2 are getting bigger, at least those of us with their service will benefit with better coverage and features. I'm sure hoping so, that is...

I wonder if VZW will use thier 700 C block to builid out thier LTE. Then they could use thier power to push a lot of phone manufactures to make thier international phones as 700/900/1800. Technically it is still open to whatever device someone wants to bring.

Could this be Verizon's official entry into Oklahoma City??? Isn't this the only Top 100 market they don't have native service in yet?

I cannot believe that Alltel got nothing. I thought the entire point of them allowing themselves to be bought by private equity firms was so they could use that equity to buy 700Mhz spectrum and become the national carrier they should be.

This leads me to believe one of two things:

1. The adjustable rate mortgage "scandal" has caused such a problem with available credit that Alltel was not able to borrow enough money to buy the spectrum they wanted (or at least win the bids) or,

2. Alltel is preparing to buy another wireless carrier... Sprint, I'm looking at you.

I can't believe Verizon got the entire C-block... they're a monster.

Might as well switch to Verizon now, I guess.

Maybe they will set up their own MediaFLO and have the smaller carriers resell it?

I like your idea about Alltel. I would love to see them become a national carrier, but not at the expense of another carrier. More carriers are better.

As far as Verizon, them owning the C-Block is fine with me, unless of course they start sleeping with the FTC again and get them to bend the open access rules. But if they go LTE for 4G like they said they will, they may have no choice but to allow open access. But then again, maybe Verizon has something up its sleeve and somehow bypass the use of SIM cards. I don't know, but I still don't trust the carriers.

I wish Vodafone had divorced Verizon and bought out the entire C-Block. Oh well, wishful thinking.

no......VOdafone will force Verizon to use SIM cards.....a point was made elsewhere on the forums.......if Verizon were to go SIM card with the LTE phones it would allow international Vodafone customers to roam on their own investment......instead of roaming on international competition......Vodafone wants to have their own footprint in the U.S. not have to use Deutsche Telekom......you know what i mean......jellybean?

And that is why I am fine (for now) with Verizon owning the entire C Block. I also think that LTE will require SIM cards. But, it does not make me trust the carriers any more than that used car salesman from "Buds Quality Used Car's"

AT&T did pretty well themselves.

Even though the big 2 are getting bigger, at least those of us with their service will benefit with better coverage and features. I'm sure hoping so, that is...
We will also reap the benefits of higher phone bills due to Verizon and At&t being the only two players in US.....in the not to distant future.

Agreed but unless Sprint does something drastic soon it won't be a matter of if someone buys them, it will be a matter of when. I'd rather it be Alltel and not Verizon who buys them.

Well, I was trying NOT to be negative, but you just HAD to go there...

I'll keep my fingers crossed that they don't become the "only two players" here. C'mon T-Mobile, do something big!

Do you think the FTC will allow Verizon to buy Sprint ............ Oh wait, Verizon (and at&t) owns the FTC.

One can dream of this, but of course, reality sets in and the door closes on this possibility.

I'm dissapointed in Alltel and T-Mobile. They didn't get a single slice of this auction.

But maybe they tried but Verizon and AT&T have more money and outbid them.

They put up 150 million up front to get into it. They must have just got outbid. Does anyone know how these work? Is it blind auction or something? If so that's stupid. Just put them on ebay for cripes sake. Lol

well it is sad for Alltel but you've gotta remember that T-Mobile has 1900 1700 and 2100........700 would be nice but its not necessary and its certainly not necessary for AT&T and Verizon.....thats sure

I hope Alltel goes after Sprint in the long-term.
But in the short-term, Alltel should definetly go after Cricket or MetroPCS, or both!

Sprint does already have a national 1900mhz license,
and Sprint overlaps Cricket & MetroPCS's coverage areas.

The only way I see Sprint buying either one is if Sprint is too lazy and doesn't want to put up any more towers.
(seems like thats already happened over here with Sprint).

But Sprint is still in the hole with the Nextel merger, and there is no big reason to go after anyone else.
Sprint would just be digging a deeper hole for their grave.

No I don't see that at all. Sprint has the coverage in all their areas with plenty of spectrum. And the arpu of those two are not very appetizing....Sprints plan is to ride out the storm. They are not acquiring anyone anytime soon.
