Only available for VZW, Spring, Alltel, and ATTWS (but not Cingular? check mMode?). $4 a month (VZW) isn't bad if you're going to really use it. |

I hate how in many states there is state-sponsored traffic information for free. You simply go to their WAP site from your phone and it is there. Or you can call 511 for free. However, nothing like that is available for NY/NJ! We are forced to pay instead! I pay $2.99/mo for Cingular's Tele-Atlas Premium Traffic WAP site. It's pretty cool, accurate and informing. Worth the $2.99 if you ask me, but if most news and weather are free, why not the traffic? Cingular has another free traffic WAP site, but it is worthless, confusing and hard to use, not to mention most important information is not even listed, such as when the GW Bridge has delays. No wonder it is free! I wish I could find a link to Rand McNally's WAP site, maybe I can get in using my Cingular account for free! I am, however, trying a way to get traffic info for free from my cell phone: MSN can send traffic SMS alerts to your phone for free. But who wants to use their SMS bucket in a couple of days? Nevermind the overage at 10 cents per SMS! I figured I can simply tell my MSN account to send traffic alerts to a Yahoo email address I created just for that. MSN has no way that I know of to access their traffic info from a WAP site. So, by sending MSN traffic alerts to an email address I can simply check that email inbox from my WAP browser. Since WAP access via CSD is free and unlimited, who can beat that? So when I want to check the traffic info, I log in to my Yahoo e-mail from my phone and the alerts are listed in the inbox. It is a bit harder to use than Tele-Atlas but all the info I need is there and it is pretty accurate. I just have to get used to the concept of checking my Yahoo email address whenever I want to see the latest traffic information. The only problem is that someday my email box will get full considering it receives several dozen alerts per day. But with 250MB available, it will take time to get full. Maybe creating a filter that deletes them automatically will be the solution to that. I have to think about it. It is quite important for us commuters in the North NJ area to have accurate traffic info because we have to constantly deal with traffic headaches every day.

Here in Utah we have free 511 services(airtime only). It's awesome. I use it all the time. Also, bobolito, I use Yahoo as my primary email, and I'm definitely not worried about the 250MB; I've yet to delete emails, even those with big attachments. |

I think the extra storage on Yahoo promotes complacency. I have the 2Gig option with over 2500 unread messages. |
