Default Razr2 for all major Providers/Moto Press Release

Since this belongs to many providers, I am posting here. Mods, if you think it should be in another location, please move it.

MOTORAZR2 Debuts With U.S. Wireless CarriersSleeker outside and more powerful inside, the next-generation MOTORAZR will soon be available to U.S. consumers from coast-to-coast
SCHAUMBURG, Il – 10 August 2007 – Motorola, Inc. (NYSE: MOT)’s much-anticipated MOTORAZR2 is ready for its North American debut. Today, major U.S wireless carriers began announcing pricing and availability dates for the blade-thin device.

The MOTORAZR2 will be available from Alltel, AT&T, Sprint, T-Mobile USA, US Cellular, and Verizon Wireless, with availability from certain carriers within 14 days. Consumers should check with their wireless carrier for specific availability dates.

“The Motorola RAZR2 delivers the sharpest mobile experiences available – and customers of every national carrier in the U.S can now own one,” said Stu Reed, Executive Vice President, Motorola, Inc. and President, Mobile Devices Business. “With smart features available such as blazing-fast 3G wireless broadband, and modern style that’s slimmer and stronger than the original, the Motorola RAZR2 is the ultimate iconic feature phone.”

The MOTORAZR2 family – V9 (3G HSDPA), V9m (3G EVDO CDMA) and V8 (GSM) – will be available to users of all three major technology networks. The product features a larger internal screen for full HTML web browsing1 and a best-in-class external screen that enables viewing media, music and/or messaging without opening the flip.

Consumers will also receive touch feedback on the external screen through “haptic” key technology. The product also features Motorola CrystalTalk™ 3 for better voice quality, up to 2GB of on-board memory 4, real-time point-to-point video1 and ultra-fast menu navigation.

A great multimedia device, MOTORAZR2 also supports the most popular music formats and media services. With built-in stereo Bluetooth® wireless technology5, users can enjoy a wire-free music experience when paired with the compatible lightweight ROKR™ S9 Bluetooth stereo headphones.

For more information, visit Motorola RAZR2 - The Art of Sharp .

OK, I see that there are 3 Versions, 9m Sprint and VZW, V9 in my opnion it will go for AT&T because of the 3G HSDPA and the V8 will go to T Mobile.

Any one agrees?

Yeah, that sounds about right.

I have to see that phone in person. It is thinner than the original RAZR, but it is longer. I wonder how it looks in my hand. I don't like large phones. Then I also wonder about its battery life. Can't be that great with all those features and 3G. If battery life is similar to the original RAZR, then I would prefer this one 1000 times over the iPhone. Plus this RAZR2 has something to enhance voice quality, which the iPhone is not very good at.

However, the biggest plus of all is that it won't be an exclusive phone to just one carrier, so we're not going to have those annoying ads of the one carrier bragging about them being the only one with that phone.

Yeah I am going to be happy about the one ad thing. I think as well maybe the V9 could go to Tmobile in the future arent they deploying a high speed network later this year?? Also from what I hear the voice quality thing you talk about it crystal talk and I think it is only on the GSM models but I am trying to confirm it to be on the V9M as well.

The problem with T-Mobile's 3G is that it will be in the AWS 1700/2100Mhz band. The V9 only supports 3G on the 850 and 1900Mhz bands which only AT&T will be using.

Here is AT&T's Press Release:
AT&T- News Room

AT&T Continues RAZR Tradition

3G-Powered RAZR2 V9 Is a Stunning Addition To AT&T's Portfolio

San Antonio, Texas, August 10, 2007

AT&T Inc. (NYSE:T) has announced that AT&T will carry the Motorola RAZR2 V9, an eye-catching new 3G-powered, 2.0 megapixel, clamshell mobile phone. The RAZR2 V9 will be available in select AT&T retail stores and online in early September for as low as $299.99.

AT&T introduced the first RAZR in November 2004, and the device has remained popular through versions such as the V3i, the first and only RAZR with iTunes, and the V3xx, another 3G-powered music and video device.

"AT&T was the exclusive carrier for the original RAZR when it changed what customers wanted from their mobile phones," said Carlton Hill, vice president of Product Development for AT&T's wireless unit. "We've led the market for years with the most fashionable phones, and the thin and iconic RAZR2 is no exception."

AT&T's Cellular Video (CV) on-demand video service will be available in one click from a dedicated hardkey on the keypad. CV features content from CNN, The Weather Channel, iFilm, Comedy Central and exclusive premium content from HBO and much more.

The RAZR2 V9 will feature AT&T Mobile Music, which allows customers to sideload music from eMusic, MusicID song recognition service, XM Radio Mobile, The Buzz music news portal, Music Videos and more. The handset is also MobiTV-capable, which means that users can enjoy streaming live TV.

In addition to being a high-speed 3G device, the RAZR2 is also a quad-band world phone that allows users to travel abroad on the largest international footprint of any U.S. wireless carrier, with voice roaming in more than 190 countries and data roaming in more than 130 countries.

Other highlights of the RAZR2 V9 include:

Quad-band GSM/EDGE, Dual-band UMTS/HDSPA.
2.0 megapixel camera with 8x digital zoom.
Large 2.0-inch QVGA color external display with touch-sensitive keys.
Bluetooth® Stereo wireless technology.
The RAZR2 will be on sale in select AT&T retail stores nationwide, online at Cell Phones and Cell Phone Plans from AT&T, formerly Cingular Wireless and at select national retailers in early September. The device will be available for $299.99 with a two-year service commitment.

For the complete array of AT&T offerings, DSL Internet, Phone, Wireless and Satellite TV Services | AT&T.

Note: This AT&T release and other news announcements are available as part of an RSS feed at AT&T RSS Feeds.

Until Moto does a real revision to their user interface I'll have to kindly say no. It can look as slick as deerguts on a doorknob, but I ain'interested til they make their interface more user friendly.

I've never had a problem with their UI, but then I've had motorolas almost exclusively for as long as I've had cellular service.

I beleive this one has a much better UI than any other moto before. If they do follow what they did the A780 I would say then that would be a good thing as that one had a good UI.

Everything about the RAZR2 is perfect except the external screen. I think it is overkill and defeats the purpose of having a flip phone in the first place. There's just no need for such large, battery-draining external display. If I want to check my messages I think it's just easier to open the flip and use the internal display and the regular keypad rather than struggle with the limited functions of the external touch-screen soft buttons.

I can see that external screen will get scratched and cracked just like it happens to candybar phones, which is why I think it defeats the purpose of having a flip phone.

I agree whole heartedly. I think an external black & white LCD is fine. Such as on the v600, PEBL or w315. It gives you the time and status (signal strength, battery strength, messages, voicemail and caller ID.) That's really all I want on an external display. I never liked full color external screens that much... except using them for playing MP3s on the K1m.

W#hich I think is the main reason behind this screen and then they went step further for other functions.

That is one thing I like about the flips, the keys and screen do not take a beating all the time. But do we really need another RAZR??? At least we have another SE in the works for 4th quarter.

That's my favorite thing about flips too. It keeps the screen and keys protected.

Well Motorola is saying that the outer screen is really strong. Not saying by any means that it cant get sratched or cracked but only time will tell if this is a problem. I do agree though the screen might be over kill but it is innovative and kudos to them for trying this.

If it is anything like the KRZRs then it should be fine. I have cracked two RAZR screens just by sitting down with it in my front pocket so I hope the screen is not the same as those.
