| http://www.phonescoop.com/news/item.php?n=2069 Motorola Unveils New Q with AWS, Brings Back UIQ Today, 4:29 AM source: Motorola Motorola today announced the phones the company had revealed pictures of a few weeks ago. Q q9: The successor to the Q has a more rounded form and a larger QWERTY keyboard. The q9 is only 11.8 mm thick and runs the new Windows Mobile 6 Standard edition. Three variants will available for different carriers' 3G networks. All include a quad-band GSM and EDGE, plus 3.6 Mbps HSDPA running in either 2100, 850/1900 (presumably for Cingular), or AWS 1700 (presumably for T-Mobile) bands. This is the first device announced to work in the new AWS 1700 radio band. It also features stereo Bluetooth, 2 Megapixel camera with flash, 256 MB on board flash memory and a microSD memory card slot. RIZR Z8: Motorola returns to the UIQ smartphone platform, but drops the touch screen interface, with the RIZR Z8. This new slider features a "kick slide" design that angles the slide like a clamshell when open. The Z8 is a quad-band GSM/EDGE phone with 3.6 Mbps HSDPA. It features stereo Bluetooth, 2 Megapixel camera with flash, 90 MB on board memory and a SDHC capable Micro SD slot. SLVR L9: This new SLVR has a more KRZR-like look with a glossy finish and soft touch keypad. It is a GSM/EDGE phone with stereo Bluetooth, 2 Megapixel camera with flash and a Micro SD slot. It also has new adaptive noise cancellation and airplane mode. W510: This mid-range clamshell mimics the look of the KRZR like other W series flip phones. It is a quad-band GSM/EDGE device with stereo Bluetooth, 1.3 Megapixel camera and Micro SD slot. KRZR K3: Updates the GSM KRZR with HSDPA, a second camera for video calling and additional on-board memory. The K3 will most likely not see American shores in this configuration. Q GSM: Motorola finally announced a quad-band GSM/EDGE of the original Q. Although it runs Windows Mobile 6, it is otherwise is identical to the black Q found on Sprint and Verizon in all other aspects. (not pictured) |

Wow, the q9 looks nice, I am not sure about the Z8, it looks odd but might be a nice unit. Looks like they are starting to get away from the Razr look little by little |

It sure is a nice one. Engadget has some hands on with teh Z8 and it looks good based on the pics. Also one pic has the home scree which looks to be a nice all around phone UI. http://www.engadget.com/gallery/hand...izr-z8/158797/ ![]() ![]() ![]() For a few more pics see this link: http://www.engadget.com/photos/hands...s-motorizr-z8/ |

The only thing I don't like about the new Q, is the number keys aren't totally a different color, which could make it harder to use especially in the beginning. And what is it with the Z8 and what appears to be a fold out antenna? I can't say for sure unless, I had one in my hand. It is nice with up to a 4GB memory expansion. |

TSK, TSK, TSK. You did not look close enough. That is not an antena, it is the security cable.

I like the look of the current Q over the Q9. I don't care too much for the way the keys are laid out. That's the only deal-breaker for me. I likes me current Q just fine!

From what I hear is that soon we might be in line for Cingular to be with AGPS and that could happen some time in July once the UMTS is in more palces. I hope my source is right. But this has a fault once you loose service yone is stuck to follow the directions and not be guided. With the external one can still go but with no updates from the server untill one hits service again. If I was to go away from BB then my option would be the Q9 or the one of the new iMate.

Images: 50 | There's a mistake in this sentence. The 2100 and 1700 bands are both part of the US AWS band and both Cingular and T-Mobile will be using it. It is not clear, however, if the mention of 2100 by itself probably means the UMTS band in Europe. However, they are mentioning Cingular next to it so they are probably referring to the US band and not the Euro-UMTS 2100Mhz band. The correction to this sentence would be: "All include a quad-band GSM and EDGE, plus 3.6 Mbps HSDPA running in AWS 2100/1700, 850, and 1900 (for both Cingular and T-Mobile) bands." Even though T-Mobile will not be running HSDPA at 850 and probably not at 1900 either, it is more correct to mention it that way because T-Mobile will be able to roam on Cingular's HSDPA 850.

They can't be any different if they both will use the AWS band. However, maybe the difference is that the T-Mobile version will only have HSDPA in the AWS (2100/1700) band, while the Cingular version will have HSDPA in all bands (AWS, cellular and PCS), but both versions will still have quadband GSM/GPRS/EDGE. Still, I don't see why they would make two different versions. That will cost more money, plus, it will prevent T-mobilers from roaming on Cingular's HSDPA.
