Default Samsung Unveils Mobile Phone With Features Similar to Apple's iPhone

SEOUL, South Korea -- Samsung Electronics Co. has unveiled a new mobile phone that features some of the sleek design and functions of Apple Inc.'s much-hyped iPhone.

Samsung's Ultra Smart F700 will be exhibited at next week's 3GSM World Congress, a telecommunications exhibition in Barcelona, Samsung spokeswoman Sonia Kim said Friday.

Mobile phone manufacturers have been scrambling to match the iPhone, unveiled last month by Apple CEO Steve Jobs, marking the Cupertino, California-based company's long-anticipated entry into the mobile phone business.

The ultra-thin iPhone is controlled by a large touch screen, plays music, surfs the Internet, and runs the Mac OS-X operating system, among other functions.

Samsung said the Ultra Smart F700 also has a full touch screen as well as a traditional QWERTY key pad that slides out ''for users who are not yet familiar with a touch-screen-only user interface.''

The phone can also access the Internet, play music, take pictures, show videos, handle e-mail and share photos, said Samsung, the world's third-largest manufacturer of mobile phone handsets.

If this phone truly is as capable as the iPhone, then it's already doing better... it has 3g.

By the time the IPhone is released it will be outdated and the only thing it will have over the rest is Aplle loualty and the owners of the IPods. I know that for me I will never mix the two into one dvice as I am the type that likes to keep changing. These type of units are meant more for the user that will keep the device for a good long period. But if Samsunbg releases this one along with LG, I would say IPhone is not going to be the hit many think it will be.

I think that the iphone shown will not be the phone released.

I do not think that Jobs has quit tweaking the innards of the device.

Just as the ipod has continual upgrades and variations, the iphone will evolve.

If Apple thinks the current iphone is not competitive it will do something to alleviate the problem.

As for 3G, they will probably upgrade as needed. Lots of people do not have a 3G network, they need to be served first.

Tue, but for it to be ready in June I doubt they will go and chnage the manufacturing proccess and if they wait another year it might be too late to bring up the UMTS as teh providers could very well be on the next stage of UMTS unless they follow suite and do what Moto just did with the V3xx and just jumped to next level of UMTS.
