Freedom Wireless Sues Ericsson and Other Providers Freedom Wireless, a USA-based development and technology company that owns patents on systems and methods for providing prepaid wireless telephone services, filed two patent infringement lawsuits in federal court in Marshall, Texas. One suit is against Cingular Wireless and Ericsson, and the other suit is against Alltel and two prepaid wireless services providers, Comverse and VeriSign. The suits allege that the carriers and services providers are infringing three of Freedom Wireless' patents for prepaid security cellular telecommunications systems that were issued by the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office between 1998 through 2001. Freedom Wireless is seeking unspecified damages and injunctions to prevent continuing infringement of its patents. Larry Day, President of Freedom Wireless, stated: "Like many development and technology companies, our patents are our lifeblood and we will vigorously enforce our rights to prevent others from using them without licenses. We believe that these companies have built their prepaid telephone businesses and systems on the unauthorized use of Freedom Wireless' patents, knowing that their systems are infringing. We brought suits in federal court in Marshall, Texas because of the vast experience of that Court in patent matters and because of the special procedural rules that Court has adopted to efficiently and expeditiously resolve patent infringement cases." www.cellular-news.com/story/20734.php |

How would they know what kind of system Cingular and Alltel use? I'm pretty sure Cingular and Alltel didn't just volunteer that information.
