Of course with the amount of Samsung's Cingular is pushing lately is kind of scary, I am still apprehensive of Samsung since the last one I had. I went to a store in Denville today to see Jeff Burton's #31 Cingular car & other then the Razr's there is only 1 other Moto being sold by them, and most of the phones were Samsung's & SE's with a bunch of smartphones & pda's & 2 Nokia's. Did Motorola loose some clout with Cingular or just a smaller line of GSM model phones being made available ?

I don't know Tom, Moto has some good handsets but that has been one of my gripes with Cingular.... too many Moto's. I bought my SE to find a replacement to my 6230 and so far I am quite happy with it's RF and build quality.

Actually I understand what you're saying. I've always sort of liked S-E handsets and I'm surprised they really haven't taken off in the US. They're huge in Europe, though. I hope this S-E RAZR-killer helps them in the US.

I am still curious as to when we get to see a pic of it, I have not had my SE long enough to determine it's credibility but so far it has been a good phone.

| Click here for information on Ai (the ultra slim handset), and other upcoming SE handsets. I should perhaps point out that Ai isn't really a rival to the RAZR, the RAZR being total mince when it comes to specs. Expect Ai to have 3G (possibly HSDPA), which means video calling too. It will basically have the same specifications as the W850 as far as I know. There is also the fact that the RAZR has been out for a while now and everyone and their uncle has one. Just to note, the picture at the top of that thread is a photoshop of a real SE handset codenamed Melinda, but the chap who did the photoshop isn't allowed to post the real picture. The photoshoped image is accurate as to what it will look like. If anyone can read Chinese please contact me.

I just saw a chap on Mobile-Review say that he had seen Ai, and that it was running W850 firmware, so that should tell you something if it's true.

@josephd No, it's been out for a month or two, I have one myself. Here is the SE W850 webpage. If you were looking on the U.S. SE site it won't show up there since it isn't on sale in the U.S.

@josephd I can't really comment on the UI because I have used SE handsets for so long that I have grown very used to it, and thus would probably have something of a biased view with regards to other UIs. I'm not sure about the reception, all the handsets sound pretty much the same here, although I imagine that a handset with very poor reception would be noticeable. |

T-Mobile is just as bad or worse... four different colours of PEBL, only the black one is attractive, IMHO and then they've got six different RAZRs, the v180, the v188, the v195, the v330, and the v360. Then, they have the Samsung t609, Samsung t309, Samsung t209 in red and blue, Samsung t319, Samsung t509s, Samsung t619, Samsung Trace, Samsung t629 and Samsung t729. So, out of 40 available phones, 15 are Motorolas and 10 are Samsungs, that's more than half the phones from only two manufacturers. At least we've got some Nokias to choose from. For me, though, Motorola is #1 and Samsung is #2, so this isn't really a bad thing for me but I could see how other people would be upset by it. Wish T-Mobile had some S-E phones. They used to have a few but haven't in a while... at least that I've seen.

The only SE I've ever owned died on me w/in a matter of months. So I most definitely won't be going back to SE. I've never had a problem with Nokia or Motorola, so that's where I'm sticking. ~*Ash*~

| I wouldn't let a single incident with a particular handset sour my view of a manufacturer. It could be entirely the case that the handset you had was faulty, for example, and not necessarily a testament to SE's overall quality.

| I might agree if I hadnt of had to go thru 4 different handsets before I finally gave up. and Ive heard from tons of others who had the exact same problem.

I wouldn't be too disheartened by the apparently negative aspects of the handset, beauty is in the eye of the beholder after all. |

Images: 21 | That picture is not of the Ai. The article states the Ai's thickness, "is comparable to the thickness of the top part of the W850i slider mechanism." That pic is of the W850i, the Ai is as thick as just the slider on the pictured W850.
