I know that thread I posted yesterday, Mitsubishi Releases 4-Megapixel Camera for Mobiles (Mitsubishi Releases 4-Megapixel Camera for Mobiles)... forget it, a 4-megapixel camera phone is now obsolete... less than 24 hours later.

Samsung today officially announced the world's first camera phone with 5-megapixel resolution. The SCH-S250, available later this month exclusively in Korea, also includes the first QVGA display in a mobile phone that supports 16.7 million colors. A text-to-speech function is also included, allowing the phone to "speak" to-do lists and incoming text messages. The 5-megapixel camera, designed in cooperation with Asahi Pentax, features a high-quality CCD sensor, 1/1000-second shutter speed, and QVGA video recording. The unique "stretch" design protects the display and camera lens when not in use. 92 MB of built-in memory can store up to 100 minutes of high-quality video, and an RS-MMC memory card slot provides additional storage (32 MB card included). An MP3 player and TV output round out the features.

Could this eventually end up with Verizon? I ask because of the "SCH" in the phones name.

Eventually is more like a pipe dream. Sooner or later it will probably come to the US but I emphasize "later," much later.

The SCH naming convention is also used in Korea.

Yeah, like 2007 later. Cause can you imagine the data networking you would need to picture message that to anyone with any remote chance of it not taking 5 minutes?

I wonder when the SGH version comes out.

SCH = The C for CDMA
SGH = The G for GSM

At the highest res, each image has to be around 2MB. 5 minutes sounds about right on a dial up.

And...it looks like the slapped a digital camera on the backl of a phone....or is that just me?

Yes, sort of, but it's a 5 megapixel phone, did you expect it to be as small as other, lower resolution cameras? That is a good complaint, though, it should have been better integreated into the housing.
