This is actually a follow-up to an item posted previously in this space...but since I couldn't find the original thread... Fed-Up Cell Phone User Sorry For Stripping, Trashing Store POSTED: 8:24 AM EDT October 19, 2004 FARGO, N.D. -- Can you hear me now? Jason Perala said he's sorry for going on a rampage in a Fargo Verizon store. He told authorities he was fed up with his cell phone service. But his apology won't be good enough. He was sentenced Monday to 60 days in jail, after pleading guilty to assault and criminal mischief charges. The man said he only meant to scream at workers at the Verizon Wireless store because he was upset over his phone service. But he ended up stripping to the waist, putting on safety goggles, hitting a worker with his cell phone, and causing more than $20,000 in broken equipment and lost sales. Authorities said the terrified store workers locked themselves in an office, while the bare-chested Perala trashed the telephone store. The 22-year-old North Dakota man admits he's "gotta change" his ways "a little bit." The judge agrees. Perala, who is a 200-pound former college wrestler, also has to undergo a year of supervised probation and pay $1,200 in restitution. Copyright 2004 by The Associated Press.

Of course, it is never right to react with violence that can harm others or destroy property. I am sure, however, from time to time, that we have felt frustrated, like that convicted man, when faced with the ignorance and arrogance of so many of the customer service people that we are forced to endure.

Now the question he's gotta ask himself is: Is his wireless service now any better than the day he walked in to that store?

This guy needs some serious anger management classes. This was his most notable outburst, but from what I read, it wasn't his first case of misbehaving.

Well, he did put on safety glasses before his rampage .. I wonder if the judge gave him some credit for role-modeling safe practices lol....

Actually in a different article I read on the same topic, he did hit and employee with a phone. Other employees got away and managed to call the police.

know what?? i hate people like this... see, many times we get angry customers in the store, and they want to complain and even yell and use bad language. they claim the thing we sold them does not work eventhough the company (or another employee) told them it would... why do they yell at us if we have not done anything?? i was not the verizon's employees' fault that that lunatic was getting bad service with his cell phone!! what do the workers have to do with it? did he think (or any custumer in any store for that matter) that the verizon employees (or us at our store) have magical powers that would give him better reception and coverage? its like yelling at a macdonalds guy because the burger king guy gave him a cold burger...

The situation is He lives in an area where VZW has NO COVERAGE, that's for sure. He may not know that Carriers don't always share Towers, so the Coverage is not the Same. Maybe he found out that another Carrier has coverage where he lives. And It all boiled down to ETF, and this is where he lost control.

He had plenty of time to think about it, after all he brought goggles with him. He got HALF-NAKED and thrashed the store. Smart. | |

Welcome to WA, what's the point of responding to such an old thread? It's no longer relevant.
