Cingular and Triton sign asset swap pact

NEW YORK, Sept 22 (Reuters) - Cingular Wireless on Wednesday said it signed a definitive agreement for an asset swap with Triton PCS Holdings Inc. (TPC.N: Quote, Profile, Research) that will help Cingular complete its plan to buy AT&T Wireless (AWE.N: Quote, Profile, Research) .
The companies first announced plans for the deal in July.

Under the deal, Cingular, a joint venture between SBC Communications Inc. (SBC.N: Quote, Profile, Research) and BellSouth Corp. (BLS.N: Quote, Profile, Research) , will get Triton's licenses, network assets and customers in Virginia. Triton will get $175 million in cash plus certain Cingular and AT&T Wireless licenses in North Carolina and Puerto Rico.
