Millions in Network Enhancement Initiatives Pay Off in Alabama; Cingular Wireless Completes 90 New Cell Sites to Enhance State-Wide Network Wednesday September 1, 1:49 pm ET BIRMINGHAM, Ala., Sept. 1 /PRNewswire/ -- Cingular Wireless announced that it has activated 90 new cell sites in Alabama and Northwest Florida this year, significantly enhancing GSM service for residents and travelers throughout the area. In addition, Cingular will add a total of 112 new cell sites to the Alabama network before the end of the year. These enhancements are part of a one-year, $150 million network investment in Alabama that will bring more than 100 new cell sites to the region to further enhance Cingular's GSM network by improving call quality, adding capacity and extending the network's reach. "Cingular continues to go beyond the big cities and Interstates to provide our customers with an advanced network that gives them the ability to make a call when they want and where they want." said Ron Sleeper, Director of Sales for Cingular Wireless - Alabama/Northwest Florida. "Cingular is committed to making its great network even better with ongoing network enhancements that allow us to grow and expand with the communities we serve." The 90 sites activated so far this year enhance service in the following areas: North Alabama - DeKalb County - enhanced coverage along I-59 and CR 51 in the Collinsville area; enhanced service along I-59 and US 11 in the Fort Payne area; enhanced coverage along I-59, CR 51 and US 11 in the Collinsville area Central Alabama - Winston County - enhanced coverage in and around the Arley area and along Hwy 257 and enhanced coverage along CR 195 just north of the Winston/Walker county line - Fayette County - enhanced coverage along US 43 just west of the Tuscaloosa/Fayette County line; enhanced service along US 43 in the Fayette area - Marion County - enhanced coverage along US 78 just east of the AL/MS state line; enhanced service along US 78 and just east of downtown Hamilton - Sumter County - enhanced service along US 80 in the Coatopa area; improved service at the US 80/AL Hwy 17 intersection and just south of York - Calhoun County - enhanced coverage along US 78 and I-20 in the downtown Oxford area South Alabama/Northwest Florida - Chambers County - enhanced service at exit 77 improving coverage and signal strength along I-85 between Huguley and Valley; enhanced coverage along I-85 and US 29 and improved coverage along I-85 in the Lanett area - Elmore County - enhanced service between Hwy 170 and Hwy 9 west of Eclectic - Lee County - enhanced coverage along I-85 NE of Opelika improving service in the nearby outlet stores - Montgomery - enhanced coverage along US 231/82; enhanced coverage between Hwy 331 and Hwy 231 along County Hwy 94 south to the Teasley area; enhanced service along Hwy 231 just north of the Pine Level area and along Hwy 331 in the area of Snowdoun; enhanced coverage along Hwy 1 and Hwy 436 in the Glen Allan area - Houston - enhanced coverage in the Dothan suburb of Ashford; enhanced service along Hwy 231 between the suburb of Antioch and South Troy; enhanced coverage along Hwy 231 near the CR 109 Junction; enhanced coverage along Hwy 84 near the CR 123 Junction just west of Dothan; enhanced coverage in and around the east side of Dothan; enhanced coverage along Hwy 84 just before the Georgia border; enhanced service along 109 and added coverage along Hwy 231; enhanced coverage on the west side of Dothan along the loop at the 84 exchange - Pike - enhanced coverage along Hwy 231 and Hwy 93 in the southern section of Brundidge; enhanced service along Hwy 231 just north of the Hamilton Crossroads near the 125 Junction area; enhanced coverage along Hwy 231 and in the Orion area; enhanced coverage for the downtown Troy area and at the intersection of Hwy 231 and 29 - Dale - enhanced coverage along Hwy 84 near the CR 85 junction and southwest of Daleville; enhanced service along Hwy 231 just west of the Dillard area; enhanced coverage along Hwy 249 south of the Ozark; enhanced service along Hwy 84 in the Level Plains area; enhanced coverage along Hwy 231 in the Midland City area; enhanced service in the Pinckard/Newton area; enhanced coverage along 231 and to the southwest section of Ozark - Coffee - enhanced service along the Hwy 84 bypass around the city of Enterprise and on Hwy 84 just north of Enterprise; enhanced coverage along Hwy 231 and in the downtown New Brockton area; enhanced service in the area between Ariton and Rocky Head - Escambia - enhanced coverage along US 29 just north of the AL/FL state line - Okaloosa, FL - enhanced coverage along County Hwy 189 and Hwy 4 in the Baker area - Walton, FL - enhanced coverage along I-10, US 331 and US 90 and in the Defuniak Springs area; enhanced service along US 331 and County Hwy 20 in the Freeport area; enhanced coverage along US 331 in the Rock Hill area; enhanced coverage along County Hwy 20 at the US 331 intersection and the along the coastal areas Having just completed an aggressive GSM upgrade to the Alabama network, Cingular is moving forward with plans to deliver world-class wireless service to customers throughout the state. You know it's a Never ending work. The day cell sites stops activating is the day they stop doing Business.

Why can't Verizon put up 200 cell and/or PCS sites out in Wyoming, Nevada, Arizona?? With the ammount of new customers comming to Verizon they should be able to invest $5 billion these days Good job CINGULAR! |

You can always look at it this way: the carrier that has less cell sites needs to add more than the carrier that has more. I wonder how many cell sites Verizon has. I know AT&T has like 29,000 and Cingular has about 22,000.
