Possible VoiceStream Deal Inches Forward

A Financial Times report on Friday said merger negotiations between VoiceStream and Cingular were moving ahead, with the two firms now seeing eye to eye on how much they would each hold in a merged entity. It said some other issues were still unresolved but could be wrapped up by the end of October. However, other sources said talks are still at an early stage as VoiceStream parent Deutsche Telekom considers other ways of cutting its massive debt. The company has been telling investors in recent days that it was reluctant to give up control over the fast-growing company.
