I was under the impression that only Cingular was having problems in that area.

Hah! I've been down to all of those areas with my ATTicon phone and had no dead service areas.

San Diego County is a very tough area to cover. All the providers have their weak spots, especially in the Northern areas of the County.

Yes, it is tough, especially with the NIMBYs.

Please excuse my ignorance, but what is a NIMBY?

Not in my back yard, typically referring to those people who don't want a tower in their area for whatever reasons they may have.

The city of San Diego has also gotten into the taxation business of Cell sites, I had to spend months to work out permits for sites already alive and approved by city, it was like 10,000 a site. I know the city makes a big stink about the sites and seem to want to get their hands on more money from the carriers. The canyon layouts of the city is a real pain, it is always an uphill battle to get new sites built.

No wonder so many people complain about coverage in San Diego.
