To my knowledge, all other carriers (save Nextel and Sprint) had Blackberrys a long time ago. But Sprint had the Treos for a long time too, so it is not like they didn't have a competing product before.

But in terms of making an effort to sell them in retail stores to retail customers, it is fairly recent, with Verizon and Cingular starting only relatively recently.

Cingular had them first though, remember the old blackberrys ran on Mobitex. I wonder if sprint will get any new devices or if they'll have regular handsets enabled with the blackberry client.

Cingular had them for a long time, but mostly for business customers, and as you said, on the Mobitex network.

I miss my old Mobitex blackberry. Even though it didn't work in the boonies, the device itself was much better and easier to use than the Blackberries now, better screen, better keypad, better battery life, thinner.

I would only agree with you for the older 58XX series and maybe certain other models. However, I type just as well on a modern 7280 (metal bezel version) as my old 950, and the modern 7280 is now easier to use with a vastly superior screen to the old 950. The metal-bezel 7280 has a improved keyboard over the plastic-bezel 7280, in my opinion.

True, the battery lasted longer on the 95X's, but it's not that much longer. The battery life is not too bad, at about 6 days or so always-on, which is much better than the old 5810's. As long as you don't use phone or instant messaging. If you run instant messaging 24/7, and your email traffic is high, the battery life goes down to about 3-4 days. Again, I use my BlackBerry 7280 as a data-only device.

My 7280 is thinner than the 950 although I do think the 957 was slightly thinner. But it's better than both the 6750 and 7750 which are battery pigs. (You should really be using a 7280 if you want long battery life and smaller size).

Wow, 3-4 days! That is impressive! With my Blackberry 7510, I have the auto-on/off feature set and have it off between the hours of 9pm and 7am (10 hours per day) and I can barely make it through a weekend without having to charge it! If i leave it on all the time, I usually get 2 days max. This is with minimal voice usage and moderate data/email.

Basically what I do is have it plugged into the USB cable whenever I am in the office (6 or so hours per day) and it works fine. I have in the past charged it overnight, used it moderately during the day with a lot of email (when i am on the road a lot) and I seem to get about 1 day out of the thing without turing it off. If I have wireless turned off, I can go for a very long time however!

Overall, I know the thing uses a lot of battery when out and about, but I would think I should get more than 1 day out of it!
