Verizon Wireless is getting into the unlimited mobile-to-mobile minutes games, with its new In-Network calling promotion.

The promotion, which runs through May 9, gives new and existing subscribers access to an unlimited bucket of mobile-to-mobile minutes. To qualify, subscribers must be on a $39.99 or more a month America's Choice rate plan and have at least a one-year contract, according to Verizon Wireless spokeswoman Brenda Raney. The switch to the new promotion is not automatic for existing customers; they must call in and request it. Verizon Wireless will not charge existing customers a fee to switch to the plan, but will require a contract extension.

"We think [the promotion] will help attract new customers and also help retain existing customers," Raney says. Last week, Verizon Wireless reported fourth-quarter subscriber growth of 1.5 million customers. The No. 1 U.S. wireless carrier ended the quarter with a subscriber base of 37.5 million.

The carrier has designed an entire marketing campaign around its In-Network promotion, including TV spots, in-store marketing materials, as well as other collateral materials, Raney says. Verizon Wireless kicked off its television ad campaign last night during CBS' "Survivor All-Stars" premiere.

On Friday, Verizon Wireless rival AT&T Wireless unveiled plans for an unlimited mobile-to-mobile promotion of its own. The carrier's new calling plan feature kicks off on Feb. 6.

This is really neat. With the exception of my sister who has SPCS (she hates VZW), my whole family has VZW and I even converted my girlfriend. Too, they are giving out $ 25 credits to your account for each person (limit 10 annually) who you convince to join in. I already used all ten. Most people I hang around with and work with already have VZW so for me it's really worth it and makes their plans that much more valuable. Still wish they had cooler phones, but I know they're coming.

I'll take the Cingular Mobile to Mobile, good anywhere in the nation, regardless of network, between Cingular customers. Unlimited sounds good, but Verizon's, like so many others, limit you to on network coverage.

Very nice indeed. Anyone know if a phone change is possible if one calls to request the unlimited M2M and extend their contract?

Iluvsocal, isn't VZW's own network overall larger than Cingular's even with roaming agreements? Which brings up a good question of mine... I always wanted to see a real map of each carriers OWN native coverage minus any roaming areas. I can't find one.

I believe he is referring to the fact that In-Network only works on the Express Network, as did it's name-predecessor, Mobile-to-Mobile. Which is why all the rate guides have Exp. Net maps in them now.
