Cingular Wireless Network Expansion Enhances Culpepper Wireless Experience Wednesday August 4, 9:03 am ET CULPEPPER, Va., Aug. 4 /PRNewswire/ -- To meet increased demand for wireless service in this fast growing Virginia community, Cingular Wireless today announced the addition of three new cell sites serving the Culpepper area. These sites were added as part of Cingular's effort to extend Cingular's coverage area to give customers more consistent access to the Cingular Wireless network along the major travel corridors in and around the town of Culpepper. As part of Cingular's efforts to enhance coverage in the region, a new cell site was added just south of Culpepper along Route 29 near the intersection of Rt. 522 and Rt. 15 to provide additional capacity and supplement coverage in town. North and east of Culpepper, a cell site has been added near Remington to improve coverage along Rt. 29 and Route 15 between Culpepper and Warrenton. A new cell site has also been added in Lignum enhance coverage between Culpepper and Wilderness, VA. Cingular Wireless also recently announced the deployment of several new cell sites in the Fredericksburg, VA area to enhance coverage between these two vibrant communities. The company hopes to add additional sites between Culpepper and Warrenton in the coming year. Last year, Cingular spent more than $120 million last year implementing an advanced GSM/GPRS network and enhancing coverage and capacity throughout Maryland, DC and Virginia. GSM is the Global System for Mobile Communications, giving customers the latest technology advances, including phones with greater functionality and unique features, high-speed data connectivity and superior sound quality. With almost 1 billion people in 200-plus countries using this technology, more than 70% of the world's total wireless market is GSM. And what GSM delivers for voice, GPRS technology delivers for data. GPRS, or General Packet Radio System, is an enhancement for GSM that transmits and receives data in packets. It provides consumers with "always-on" connectivity, greater bandwidth and faster connection speed -- all from a wireless phone. In addition to retail and network expansion, Cingular will introduce a number of new initiatives throughout the year to enhance the customer experience. These include offering a simplified bill, more detailed coverage maps and self-service enhancements on the web, just to mention a few. Actually, Cingular started all this "tower marketing campaign." Verizon is just following their game.
