Wow. I think they're just jealous because they don't have WiFi at work. (Forgive my ignorance, but what's a NIMBY?)

Default NIMBY's strike again.....this time a WiFi network is the victim.

NIMBY = Not In My Back Yard. These are known species found mostly in white collar, high class residential areas. Their primary obsession is ensuring their kitchen window has a clear view of their green landscape and that it is enviromentally safe from radiation to raise their cubs. They feel extremely unsafe with the introduction of any foreign artificially made objects in their habitat such as telecommunication towers. By instinct they agressively defend their territory whenever they fear threatened by the telecommunications industry attempt to improve wireless service. Ironically, they also complain when their wireless telecommunication service does not serve their area. In conclusion, they want to have their cake and eat it too.

I doubt they are going to win that one. The same thing happened to Sprint in Colorado where a bunch of people sued Sprint for installing an antenna on top of a school and they ended up losing their lawsuit after 2 or 3 years of fighting in court.

Excellent description!
I would add that these beings tend to be grossly ignorant of the basics of science, thus they are easily misslead by junk science stories in the media.

Since May, I have been to two towns with a very high concentration of the NIMBY species: Rancho Palos Verdes, CA and Hingham, MA. The NIMBYs have unfortunately managed to gain control of what passes for local government in these towns. The rule of ignorance causes all the citizenry to suffer.

Sprint has pretty much had their way with Rancho Palos Verdes though. They were able to convince the city to approve almost every one of their microcells in residential areas. So I think there are other cities (such as Carlsbad, CA) that are worse than they are.

I'm sure that they don't cook macaroni and cheese in the microwave. They have much better food that they can eat because they keep their property values high.

Default NIMBY's strike again.....this time a WiFi network is the victim.

click

We are staging for a local and national boycott of Sprint and this page is being redesigned to support our effort. We did some limited email tests last week and received strong support around the county.

We have no desire to hurt Sprint, as we believe they are fundamentaly a good company, but we estimate that for every 100,000 wireless subscribers we encourage to drop Sprint it will cost Sprint over $30 million in lost revenue.
||| standard NIMBY logic
So far our campaign plans include:

* National email campaign to 10,000,000 addresses; additional lists are in the works to reach an additional 20,000,000 addressees
* Email Brigade campaign to all Wireless Industry Security Analysts and Institutional Investors
* Email Brigade campaign to Sprint partners, spokespersons, and strategic partners
* Email and door-to-door campaign to local business
* Broadcast fax to major local and national editors
* Boycott of the Sprint Promotional Events

"E-mail brigade?" That's funny, I like these NIMBYs, they've got spunk. It makes you think, you know? There's nothing I'd rather not fight with than a bunch of luxury SUV-driving soccer moms, especially when they're educated only by what they've seen on Dateline or read about in Martha Stewart Living. Here's some "evidence" to prove that magnetic and electronic fields or nuclear radiation really isn't bad. I was born in Pennsylvania the same year as Three Mile Island and I lived under high tension lines as a kid in Omaha and I'm fine. Well... except for that thing with the monkey and the tomato, but that was an isolated incident. Unfortunatly I didn't get the mutant powers that reading comic books all my life led me to believe I would, either.

I heard some company will launch a male enhancement module that goes with cellular phones when you carry them in your pocket.

It must have been in one of the 400 SPAM mails that I forwarded to Spam Cop so far this month.

(I wish that were a joke.)

They already have that. It's an 'alternate' silent ringer. Just get a belt case and use the clip to attatch it to boxers/breifs. Find another phone and let the good times roll! Just make sure it isn't a Nokia.

By the way, what does this have to do with NIMBYs?

Yep. The smaller the phone, the bigger the SUV, and the tinier the stugots.

No no, SpamCop is a real thing... it's a very effective spam-blocking software.

I use SpamAssassin though...
