Vodafone adds nearly 5M subscribers in 4Q

LONDON�¢??Vodafone Group plc said it added 4.9 million net customers during the fourth quarter of 2002, including 900,000 from stake changes, ending the year with 112.5 million proportionate subscribers worldwide.

The telecommunications giant said its international operations added 922,000 customers in Germany, 529,00 in Italy and 267,000 in the United Kingdom. Vodafone also reported it added 430,000 proportionate customers through its 45 percent interest in Verizon Wireless Inc., which translates into around 950,000 total net customer additions for the U.S.-based operator.
