Sprint Nextel Closes Purchase of Alamosa

OVERLAND PARK, Kan. - Sprint Nextel Corp. said Wednesday it has closed its acquisition of Sprint-branded affiliate Alamosa Holdings Inc. for $3.4 billion.

The sale, approved earlier this month by Alamosa shareholders, also includes assuming $900 million in debt.

Alamosa, based in Lubbock, Texas, sells Sprint-branded services in 19 states and has 1.48 million subscribers. It reported $1.2 billion in revenue last year.

Sprint Nextel has now acquired five of its affiliates since Sprint Corp. bought Nextel Communications Inc. in August for $35 billion to form the nation's third-largest wireless company. Shareholders for a sixth affiliate, Nextel Partners Inc., last month voted to sell the company's remaining shares to Sprint for $6.5 billion.

With the exception of Nextel Partners, most of the purchases came after the affiliates sued Sprint, saying Sprint's sale of Nextel-branded products would violate the company's agreement not to compete with the affiliates in their territories.

I guess Nextel Partners comsumation deal is next on the list.

Question So How many affilates left??

Horizon PCS and iPCS have lawsuits against a buyout and I think ubiquitel does as well?

After Nextel partners I don't think Sprint will be buying any more affiliates. At least not in the near future. They don't want IPCS at all according to what I've been hearing.

Horizon PCS no longer exists, iPCS bought them out a little while ago.
