Default Qualcomm successful test of CDMA2000 Revision A

Qualcomm Tests Revision A Platform

Qualcomm has announced that successful end-to-end test calls have been conducted utilizing prototype CDMA2000 1xEV-DO Revision A networks and handsets. This marks a major milestone in the development of CDMA and the Rev. A standard, accelerating the realization of the next evolution of the EV-DO technologies that support the 3.1 Mbps forward and 1.8 Mbps reverse link data rates and higher system capacity required for next-generation wireless multimedia. The test calls were made using equipment based on Qualcomm's Cell Site Modem (CSM) CSM6800 chipset for base stations and the Mobile Station Modem (MSM) MSM6800 chipset for mobile handsets.

"We are excited about EV-DO Rev. A commercializing higher speeds, which will support next-generation multimedia content and pleased to see the ongoing evolution of EV-DO standards to deliver additional enhancements, further extending opportunities for new voice and data applications," said Edward Salas, vice president of network planning for Verizon Wireless. "We have a history of leadership in providing service innovation on broadband networks and fulfilling the potential of next-generation IP multimedia services -- EV-DO Rev. A will enable us to continue to offer our customers the latest in next generation services."

"These successful end-to-end test calls of EV-DO Rev. A technology are a very important step in making it commercially available, bringing our customers and partners closer to offering new mobile capabilities and higher-quality wireless multimedia," said Luis Pineda, senior vice president of product management for Qualcomm CDMA Technologies. "Qualcomm is pleased to collaborate with Verizon Wireless to be part of these technology developments that we believe will redefine wireless mobility for people around the world."

EV-DO Rev. A technology provides technological advancements for richer multimedia services. Higher data throughput and lower latency with Quality of Service (QoS) deliver an enhanced user experience for delay-sensitive applications including VoIP and video telephony. Support for EV-DO Gold and Platinum Multicast services enable the delivery of high-quality video and audio to a large number of users simultaneously. Successful implementation of the EV-DO Rev. A standard paves the way for the deployment of further evolutions of CDMA technology, with efforts currently underway to develop next-generation standards that will support even higher data rates and more advanced broadcasting capabilities.
