Default SK-Earthlink? Not anymore!

Source: Phonescoop.com

SK-Earthlink today announced the brand for its new MVNO service launching next spring: Helio. The brand will also be the new name of the company, a joint venture between Korea's SK Telecom and Earthlink. Helio plans to offer advanced wireless services based on succesful offerings in Korea, delivered via EV-DO networks and exclusive cutting-edge phones.

I like this name AND logo much better. The name before was... yea. Boring. This logo/brand name is very exciting and catchy. And I am interested in getting this carrier when I get back to the states .

Something caught my eye in the article about Helio (nee SK-Earthlink) I read on News.com - it mentioned that they would be using EVDO networks owned by Sprint AND Verizon Wireless. Does this mean that they've signed MVNO or roaming agreements with BOTH companies? Or was this just a misstatement by News.com, and that they're really using one OR the other?

Also, am I wrong in remembering that at one point, Earthlink was owned by Sprint? Or am I just making that up?

I also heard that there would be MVNO agreements off of Verizon and Sprint. I don't know about the Sprint/Earthlink question, though.

Also, here is their new website. It's really neat and when you click on the circles with logos on them on the right, they have some interesting and cool messages IMO . www.helio.com

FWIW I read that Helio will start out by using the Sprint network. I'm not sure when/where Verizon's network will come into play.

I was interested in a position in Arizona when I get back to the states after reading their website. But that page on their website doesn't exist yet. I would be perfect for this position, though

They put up the job listing site. There are only jobs available in CA... Westwood and LA. And they all require at least 5 years of experience. But still interesting! Wish I had the experience they are looking for because I am highly interested "User Interface Designer" and "Product Manager - Emerging Technology (Handsets)" lol.

I expect that they'll only provision customers on VZW where there is no SPCS (rural areas, etc.), and might have structured things so that Helio customers roam on VZW instead of Alltel/USCC/other larger regionals (as regular SPCS customers and SPCS MVNO customers who can roam off-network do) to provide more data coverage.

Earthlink itself has been somewhat schizophrenic when it comes to using SPCS vs. VZW; their Treos use SPCS, while their BlackBerries (the ones that are phones anyway; the data-only ones still use Cingular's Mobitex network, and there may still be some using Motient floating around) and their old laptop data card product use VZW.
