Well i would think that Verizon and Sprint dont like to share towers because there is more of a riivalry between them. Or maybe Verizon just desighns thier netowk diffrently then sprint. Who knows, but I am sure there is a reason. Sprint and Nextel co-loacte alot here in FL too BTW larry. |

I don't think Verizon owns any towers in this area. They all collocate on American Towers, Crown Castle and others. You can always see their panels mixed in with T-Mobile, AT&T and others. But again, that's in my area.

Verizon sold off some of their towers here in So. Cal to Spectrasites about 5 years ago. For some reason Sprint will rarely ever co-locate on a Spectrasite tower but Cingular & Nextel co-locate on many of them. There was supposed to be a Sprint/AT&T tower sharing agreement made about a year ago (anyone remember that?) I don't think it ever really materialized though.

AgentHibby, thinking about it, I can only come up with one tower in my(our) area right now that I think VZW might not actually own, but colocate on, but I'm not sure...

Re cell breathing -- I have seen differences of 10-15 dB RSSI between peak and off-peak usage times with SPCS in certain parts of Atlanta (Druid Hills/Fernbank area, which is bad for most carriers but particularly bad for SPCS, comes to mind) Same phone, same spot, different times of day... Re cell sites -- around here, it seems to be mostly Cingular who's on towers to themselves. (This is especially evident in Chattanooga, where Cingular has always had subpar site placement compared to other local carriers.) Nextel tends to often be apart from other carriers too, since Nextel can't be on many government-owned towers because of the public safety interference issues; Southern LINC is almost ALWAYS on towers to themselves, usually on Southern Company-owned property. -SC

As with any company accomplishing any task in the technology age... nothing is perfect. Someone in a race has everyone else beat in some area or another, and have consequences. Nextel cares about their two-way customers, so they have built their network to perfect it as much as possible. Verizon Wireless is without a doubt the largest wireless provider in the nation, so they focus their future on expanding their coverage areas as much as possible. T-mobile, Cingular, At&t, well... not much can save them, they have become the K-marts of the wireless world looking up at walmart-monopolies (in my opinion lol). However, diversity is what keeps all these companies in business. Some people care more about two-way then calling, others care more about network & phone features more then network availability. Since Sprint, Verizon, and Nextel are dominating this wireless world, the others are desperatably throwing everything out on the table (rollover, lower add-a-line costs, flexible plans), and seems to be working. We haven't seen this kind of competition since on going fued between Ford, Dodge, and Cheverolet. (That thing got a hemi?? Who cares?? It's no Triton V8!)

If this is happening in your area, some RF engineers need to get fired. It would be due to poor design, or more likely laziness. Turning up max subs instead of adding carriers where they are needed. if a cell is getting that full an additional carrier should be requested.

Larry, maybe they mean how VZW is the Wal-Mart (monopoly) of Wireless while the GSM carriers are the K-marts??? I don't buy nachos at K-mart. Then again, I don't buy clothes at Wal-Mart. Still rather shop at Wal-Mart. K-marts are dirty just like some reps. working in the wireless industry and have been going downhill since they declared bankrupcy a couple of years ago. To be fair, the Santa Ana, CA Wal-Mart is just as dirty as any K-Mart I've ever been too. LOL Some like Wal-Mart, some like K-Mart. Wal-Mart is just bigger.

If there is a "Target" in the wireless industry nowadays is AT&T Wireless!

It depends, I shop at all three (though Target only once a month, closest one is about 70 miles south of here in Santa Rosa, we have Wal-Mart in Ukiah, the closest K-Mart now though is in Lakeport, about 30 miles east of here, our very new K-Mart closed a couple of years ago, and just reopened this month as a brand new Home Depot), and all three have their good and bad points. I like Shopko too, though the closest one is over in Redding, about 150 miles away, used to shop at them a lot in Pocatello, Idaho.

Wow! You drive 70 miles to get to a Target!?? Driving 70 miles from here I can get out of NJ, go across NY and end up in CT! How do you get electricity in the middle of the Amazon?
