América Móvil, S.A. de C.V. announced on August 3, that they have acquired the Chilean mobile operator Smartcom, S.A. from Endesa Participadas, S.A. of Spain.

And on July 13, they announced the acquisition of Hutchison Telecommunications Paraguay, S.A. from Hutchison Telecom. The agreement to acquire HTP was first announced on May 9.

They're expanding quite fast. Pretty soon, they'll control a lot of markets in Latin America. They also bought Bell South's Latin American assets IIRC.

Telefonica Moviles is who bought Bell South's Latin American assets.

In March 2003, América Móvil acquired wireless provider BSE (in Brazil) from Bell South.
