I just signed up today. I am out of the security industry and I heard a rumor the other day. There are some Cell phone based alarm transmitters that use the analog data channels to transmit signals. The rumor was that these channels will be going away soon. I saw a post that referred to 2007 or 2008 and FCC mandate. Does anyone have any information on this? Please provide links to rules and regs if you know of any. Thanks, Mikie |

Well it is not that analog is going away. Analog by FCC law ALL Cellular carriers with Analog can NOT turn off any Analog UNTIL 2008. The only reason you do not roam on analog much anymore is because (if you w/ a CDMA carrier) CDMA is being setup in more places where analog was. Yet, Analog is still roamed on in remote areas. |

Last I heard it is optional for analog celluar in Feb 18, 2008 until then if I site does analog cellular it will have to until then. PCS providers are required to use digital; analog is opitional on PCS, but never used.

Also, as the people making the transmission equipment move forward, they are phasing it out as well. In two (or three I think) more software releases, the Nortel switch will not support Analog. Now, they keep saying that about old equipment too, and because there are so many legacy users, they keep support for it. Somebody'll have it around for a while.
