Default Text messaging with AT&T?

Hi,

I've a friend who traveled over to Birmingham, Alabama recently from Ireland and took with a tri-band GSM phone. He's currently roaming with AT&T there. I've sent him a few text messages and via email he's told me that he's received them all - and has replied to them too. However, I haven't received a single text from him back. Does AT&T support texting to numbers outside of the US yet on GSM? I would have thought so...

Have nim text you back from ATT's website.

Default Text messaging with AT&T?

If you go here, it will give a list of countries and carriers they support sending international text messages to. As of this moment, I did not see Ireland on the list.

Ah, I didn't realize that AT&T only let you text certain countries. Bummer! And yet somehow Isle of Man makes the list (despite its tiny size). Oh well...
Thanks!

I'm surprised the list is as long as it is. They just started allowing international messages a couple of months ago and ATT does not seems like one of the quicker wireless service providers when adding capabilities to their features.

Thanks!
But then the Isle of Man still uses the UK +44 dialing code doesn't it? Manx Telecom is the main (if not only) mobile network on the Isle and Manx Telecom being part of the O2 group it doesn't seem out of the realms of possibility that it would be supported. Anyway, hope they sort out the Ireland situation soon!

Cheers!

This is so true...simple meaningless features such as automatic time update were never added to their TDMA network and they never supported CSD over TDMA. Cingular added those features and more to their TDMA very quickly, not to mention that they are ahead of AT&T wireless converting to GSM even though they started converting 9 months after AT&T. I guess that shows who has more money.

Default Text messaging with AT&T?

In the end, my friend *was* able to text me in Ireland - he didn't put the correct international code prefix. For some reason, 011353 didn't work (where 353 = Ireland), I think he used +353 instead.

As for the Isle of Man being on that list, I'm still surprised - I can only roam on Vodafone in the UK but can't roam at all in the Isle of Man...

Cheers...

They finally added automatic time update to their TDMA network four or five months ago. It took a better part of a week to update the time when Daylight Savings ended.
