I'm looking for some advice here. I run a website but do a lot of traveling and and would like to be able to update my site without needing to have my laptop with me at all times. So I'm looking for a wireless PDA or smartphone device that will allow me to access the internet (at broadband-level speeds) to update my site through the php forms we use. This means the device needs to have as full a browser as possible, like internet explorer or mozilla, so that it can access and submit information through these php forms. I would also like to use the device as my primary cell phone. I currently have standard cellular service through Verizon, and in the best case scenario would like to stay with them to avoid the $150 early cancellation charge. As far as I can tell, however, Verizon only provides broadband access for the Audiovox XV6600 and therefore am not completely wedded to them -- especially if other services provide broadband access for more inexpensive devices. Any suggestions? |

I use the Audiovox 6600 with Cellular South. It is a flawless piece of equipment. This thing is like having a computer in your hamd. Internet access is fast. Internet Explorer for Pocket PC is the web browser. I also have several co-workers who use the Siemens SX66 through Cingular.(These are the same PPC on different networks) They are all very happy with theirs. I would absolutely recommend this device to anyone!

The Audiovox 6600 is and the Siemens SX66 are both made by HTC in Taiwan. One is GSM/GPRS and the other is CDMA2000. Both run Windows PPC 2003. The have full QWERTY keyboards and large bright screens. If your PHP pages load quickly on a slow connection, then either network will work for you. If not, you may find GPRS frustratingly slow. Verizon's EV-DO (Mobile Broadband) is not available nationwide yet, but 1xRTT is available in most parts of the 16 states that I have visited in the past two years. Here are user reviews on both phones from Phonescoop: SX66 and 6600 |

Hey, I don’t know if this is what you’re looking for, but I’ve had pretty good luck with Mobile Phone Tools. You can connect to you laptop with your mobile phone. You can check it out here: http://www.bvrp.com/link_mobile_phonetools.htm. Hope that helps. --Neo |
