Does anyone know if WEP and WPA2 is directly related to the hardware of wifi devices, or is it just a firmware/software thing? I was thinking to buy an old 802.11g router on ebay but saw it only supported WEP and was wondering if it could be flashed to support WPA2?

Wow, never really thought about it. I would assume that its software related because you can change the security really fast. Do you know the make and model. I can check some of the opensource firmware and see if they'll enable the WPA.

I found this on wikipedia, which shows WEP devices can be flashed to WPA, but no mention of WPA2 Quote:
If anyone finds out, please let me know!
