Hello all - I'm living in Honolulu, and currently have Verizon, but we're getting a new family plan, and I wanted to take the opportunity to check out the competition. Anyone have any recommendations for or against various providers? We're mostly in town, not in the mountains or remote areas. Verizon has been good to me so far, but isn't offering the best deal we've found. T-Mobile has a nice plan, but I've read a lot of complaints about dropped calls, even in town. Thanks in advance! |

If you'd like to choose one in the 2nd group, just time it so you can travel around and check it in all your important places. When you are in T-Mobile's coverage area, they are very good. The only time they aren't is when you get just beyond their coverage. They have the best coverage maps in the business on their web site. | |

I would stick with Verizon. It had always worked extremely well for me all over O'ahu. You could try Cingular, but their family plans are more expensive than Verizon's if you need more than two lines. Verizon has some cool phones coming out just after the 4th of July.

Don't use T-Mobile if you ever intend to go up mauka, you'll get zero signal unless you can actually see Honolulu.

Thanks for all the advice - we decided to stick with Verizon after all. Why fix what's not broken? I'll put in an update if the new phones don't work as well as my old (and I mean old!) one :) Thanks!
