Default Sprint improved coverage in Northern AZ

Sprint has recently added a new tower between Williams & Flagstaff to help close that gap for travelers. In addition there is now coverage in Winslow & Holbrook and along most of I-40 from Winslow to Albuquerque New Mexico.

There is also improved coverage along I-17 Between Phoenix and Flagstaff and a number of new sites in the greater Phoenix metro area.

Question Re: Sprint improved coverage in Northern AZ

I take it these are not old Qwest sites.

No, these are in affiliate areas. The Affiliates had nothing to do with the Qwest deal.

Nice to hear about the improved coverage along I-17. I hope to travel that stretch of interstate sometime this year.

Wow they're improving the I17? When I had Sprint and Virgin Mobile I had pretty good coverage about 90% of the way to HWY 69. So I guess it's just about perfect now?

Hopefully. It is nice to see that most of the areas that people travel most in AZ are getting good coverage now.

I was surprised that Sprint/VM got coverage in remote areas like Cherry behind the Mingus Mountains and along HWY 169. Both Sprint/VM and my new ATT phone get full coverage at the 169/I17 junction.

I was pleasantly surprised by the coverage I got for the most part with Sprint in AZ. There were lots of places where i thought they wouldn't have coverage that they in fact do. I however am a happy Cingular customer now!

Sprint didn't previously have coverage in Holbrook?

I had a good signal (good enough to make calls) when I was there with my family last July ('04).

But it is good that Sprint is finally starting to slowly expand where they need to.

You may have had service with them from a boomer site on I-40 when you were there. Your signal level (-98) isn't that good...

Yes they could have had coverage there in July 04 but the maps were just now updated to reflect it. Or like azcell said it could have been spillover signal from a more distant tower on I-40 and now it's much better.
