Default Verizon Wireless problem

Hello all,

I'm from Indiana and usually have outstanding reception with Verizon. However, I am part of a research project in Sevilleta National Wildlife Refuge which is in NM, and my verizon phone gets next to no reception. I get one bar of "EV" whatever that is and one bar of "1X", so when I try to make a call it usually drops very quickly. What I really don't understand is other people in the same place as me that have Sprint and AT&T get pretty much full service. Is my phone not roaming for some reason? I have a LG Chocolate (VX8550) and the system select is set on automatic and I also am supposed to have "nation wide coverage". Any help or suggestions would be highly appreciated.

sounds like you should get a at& T go phone for the area and forward your calls, you might check tmobile's coverage as well usually very similar to att, Verizon probably just doesn't have any service there and maybe no roaming agreement check with verizon first though give them a call and they can check on the coverage issue

The problem is Sprint and Att out there will roam off of Alltels CDMA and GSM. Really coverage will not be everywhere for every carrier. Before someone comes here and bashes on how verizon does not allow roaming lets not state the obvious.

Actually, I was not aware that verizon did not allow roaming. Sorry I did not mean to start people bashing carriers, I just thought my phone might have been programed wrong or set on the wrong setting or something. Thanks

Hi, I'm from Los Lunas (about 20 - 25 miles north of Sevilleta) . I'm with T-Mo & seem to remember getting good service when travelling I-25 in that area. I know there is a tower at I-25 & the Bernardo exit but I don,t know who is on it. Of course none of this will help when you're down in the refuge or over by the river. If you can find someone with a GSM phone it might be worth your time (& money) to get a T-Mo To Go starter kit & check it out.
Good luck,
Mike

No I am sorry Verizon does allow roaming in certain markets. I was just saying I think where you are at Verizon does not include alltel to roam on there. If you could, could you get a google map and show us the area where you are at and maybe we can answer your questions better.

Also I didnt mean that you were bashing any carrier I just wanted to state this before people come in here and say how it is not good verizon blocks some markets is all. Anyways with every carrier there will be places you dont get service it just depends sometimes you are the minority and sometimes you are the leader. You can never have it all I dont care what carrier it is.

I think this link for google maps should work...Sevilleta National Wildlife Refuge NM - Google Maps

Very true, I just wanted to make sure there wasn't something wrong with my phone or its settings is all. I would hate for my phone to not be working simply because of my ignorance. Thanks for you help.

No problem, thanks for letting me know where you are helps alot. Looks like most everyone has service along that area. Yeah sorry there is not much you can do with your phone to help you out. If you need service yeah look at a prepaid for the time you are there to get you along. Is there anything you can do to borrow peoples phone how long do you plan on being there?
