This is a bit old but just found it for the first time today. Sprint and Verizon came out tied for first place in the latest Big Bear mountain wireless test. The story is on page 16 and 17 of the PDF file: http://bigbearmagazine.com/images/Ar...eptoct2005.pdf |

Looks like the article is on Page 10 of the PDF. Also an interesting note is that this is back from 2005, so while it is good information, I'm sure a lot has changed since then. Today Sprint still relies on roaming in areas surrounding Big Bear Lake, whereas Verizon's coverage is a lot more complete even in the rural areas. |

Yes it is from 2005 (I stated it was a little old in my first post) but it is still fairly accuarte because only a couple of towers have been added since then including a new Sprint tower in Sugar Loaf. I don't know even a single place near Big Bear or surrounding areas where Sprint relies on Roaming on Verizon anymore. If there is I haven't come across it yet. I'm up there 3-4 times a year and make it a point to test these things out. In fact I heard just the opposite occurs at spots at Bear Mountain resort where Sprint has a tower but Verizon doesn't. Sprint also has better coverage on Hwy 38 (one of the roads up to the mountain) than Verizon does. I'm sure Verizon has their areas that are a little better but overall I don't think there's much difference. | |
