IRVINE, CA — A school nurse needs to call a child’s parent. A teenager needs a ride home from summer camp. A first responder must text message her entire team. Whatever people consider urgent, they can depend on the most reliable national wireless network thanks to Verizon Wireless.

Verizon Wireless customers in Oceanside, California, and near Camp Pendleton are now experiencing increased coverage thanks to seven new cell sites:

Camp Pendleton enlisted housing on San Mateo Road and portions of Christanitos Road and Basilone Road
Along North River Road from Douglas Drive to College Boulevard and the surrounding residential area to the north
Near Las Pulgas Road, Aliso Canyon Road, Stuart Mesa Rd. north of Aliso Canyon Rd. and Basilone Road
Along Vandegrift Boulevard from Stuart Mesa Road and north east
Around Horno Summit near Basilone Road and Horno Ridge Road
Along Interstate 5 from Basilone Road to the California Highway Patrol checkpoint
Along Interstate 5 at Las Pulgas Road and the western portion of Marine Corps base
"Our local expansion is just another way of ensuring that Verizon Wireless’ network continues to support our leadership in customer loyalty,*" said John Palmer, regional president of Verizon Wireless.

Verizon Wireless is the only major carrier with a 30-day network Test Drive pledge that pays for calls if a customer isn’t satisfied and switches to another carrier. The company has invested more than $40 billion in its wireless network over the past seven years. Of that amount, more than $4 billion has been invested in California, helping Verizon Wireless stay ahead of the growing demand for its services and add new capabilities, like V CAST Mobile TV.

There are more than 2,300 Verizon Wireless stores nationwide, including those at Circuit City. For more information about Test Drive from Verizon Wireless or any of our products and services, visit a Verizon Wireless Communications Store, call 1-800-2 JOIN IN or go to Cell Phones, Cell Phone Plans, Cell Phone Accessories - Verizon Wireless.

* Loyalty claims based upon publicly available churn (customer turnover) figures.

I thought they already had good coverage along there. It doesn't take a whole lot of sites to cover that stretch.

Maybe they just added PCS for capacity?

I've been noticing more and more that when I force my phone to PCS only, I'm seeing more and more voice coverage area out here. It was a lot more spotty last year.

I even get more bars in my place on PCS than I do with the Cellular band with my vx8700.

Well larry if you look at sprints map of oceanside theyre adding 10 new sites so there must be some sort of capacity problem in that area for both sprint and vzw.

Actually that's not correct. Only two of those Sprint sites are in Oceanside proper if you look carefully at the map. The others are in Vista and Carlsbad and those areas are tougher to cover and need more sites. But I was mainly referring to Camp Pendleton which is North of Oceanside. It's not really a capacity hungry area and is easy to cover with just 5 or 6 sites (which I assumed all the carriers already had).

Yes, Verizon actually had great coverage along that stretch for years, but we all know there is always room for improvement, especially with increased demand.

That is good news, I had a problem down there the couple of times I was down there. There must be a lot of Marines who use Verizon. I would think you would need more ATT or TMobile coverage.
