I have verizonwireless,

My question is that I have the A/Cs plan and was woundering if they will charge me international long distance charges if I call u canada? How much will it costs per min? It doesnt' say anything on the website besides how to dial it just like domestic long distance here in the US. Would if consder international LD if I call that person? Well plz let me know thanks

The reason you don't see the international LD rates to Canada is because they are already considered part of the North American dialing pattern. Each call from your local calling area is $ 0.20 per minute plus airtime. Even if your plan includes free nights and weekends, you will still pay the $ 0.20 per minute LD fee even though your anytime minute allotment will not be depleted during that time. If you have the AC plan, your local calling area is the entire AC footprint.

To qualify for International Dialing, you must meet the following requirements:

1) Verizon Wireless is your long distance provider
2) You must have 90-days of good payment history (e.g., no late payments, no suspensions for nonpayment, etc.) with Verizon Wireless. Security deposit of up to $500 may be required
3) Call VZW directly and ask them to add Int. Dialing to your plan. There is no monthly fee to add this feature. Security deposit only required for accounts with late payments and/or poor credit worthiness.
4) Your name and SSN# must be the primary name and SSN# on the account
5) This feature can be revoked without any notice to you if VZW feels you or somebody else is abusing the feature without intent to pay

When making a call to Canada from the US, you dial calls similar to long distance calls in the United States. No country, city, or international access codes are required.


1 + Area Code + Local Number

Example:
1 + 123 + 123-4567

Now, if you visit Canada enough times per year, VZW has a North American Calling Plan which allows you to use your home airtime minutes in SELECT parts of Canada and Mexico without being charged roaming or long distance. Those calling plans start at $ 59.99 a month for 400 North American Anytime Minutes.

What if I add international dialing to my calling plan. My calling plan is the A/C 400. which I get 400 mins anytime, unlimited mobile to mobile , unlmited n/w mins. If I add that calling feature the international LD on my calling plan that will not cost extra monthly fee right and that if I call that person in canada I wont be charged for the .20 a min.? Thats what I was confused about if I was going to be charged for the .20 a min if I added that calling feature. Plz let me know thanks

i think it's only VZW that includes Canada in their Included Minutes,
when you're in the USA.
Except when you're in Canada itself,
then you pay roaming.

Here in the former Airtouch region, VZW charges 20¢ per minute for calls to Canada. In some parts of the country, users have reported there isn't an extra charge for calls to Canada. However, I wouldn't bank on it.

Adding Int. LD to your account alone does not waive the $ 0.20 fee per minute it simply allows you to make LD calls to locations outside the US.

The only LD option to call Canada without paying $ 0.20 per minute is to be a subscriber to the North America Calling Plan. This plan starts @ $ 59.99 for 400 North American ANYTIME MINUTES, 1000 US M2M Minutes, and 1000 US Night and Weekend Minutes. Notice that all calls made to and from Canada will use your ANYTIME minutes. I would only recommend it if you feel it would be cheaper than the $0.20 per minute option. If you call Canada a lot on your cell phone, I'd use the $ 79 per month package which includes 800 ANYTIME minutes.

Also, for the North American Calling Plan to work for you, both calls must originate within you home calling area. Check out VZW's North American map to see if the area you plan on calling falls within your North American home calling area. If you are unsure if the city or cities you plan on calling are included within the North American Calling Plan, I'd call Customer Service and inquire.

The ability to dial internationally is free... you just ask them to add it to your plan. Then, calls TO CANADA from the US are $0.20 per minute. It is a long-distance charge. So, if you are in LA and you call Vancouver, it costs $0.20 per minute. This is WITH the International Dialing option.

If you don't have the International Dialing option, you will not be able to complete calls to Canada. Period.

It will be much, much cheaper for you to buy a phone card from a store and use your cell phone to call the (800, 888, 877 or 866) access number on the phone card from your cell phone. I have a phone card that allows me to call Canada for two cents a minute.

Definetly calling cards are the way to go... But you should be careful, there are some that will just eat up your minutes and you'll end up speaking half of what you paid for. I had some terrible experiences with calling cards bought from gas stations or other stores... I can't even remember the name of the cards 'cause I wanted to forget the whole thing...

For the past 3 months however I used www.callingcardshome.com to get calling cards online and it's a pretty good deal - less then 2 cents to call US&Canada. So far so good...

If you call Canada regularly, Sprint's PCS Call Canada gives you a 0.09/ min rate to anywhere in Canada, (plus lower International rates to many other countries). The monthly rate of $7 gives you a break even point of 64 minutes per month to Canada comparing to VZ 0.20/min.

That's not true, unless you have one of the very old VoiceStream North American Neighborhood plans, which did include Canada.

T-Mobile "nationwide" plans didn't even include Alaska until December.

My friend still has one of those old voice stream plans. He calls to canada all the time. It will even call to Mexico.
