Default Broadband in Mammoth Lakes

I'm thinking of adding a broadband card to the laptop. I will be camping in Mammoth Lakes this summer (and considering staying at one of the in town campgrounds like Shady Rest). I believe the tower is at the Cheveron station there on Main St.

Anybody getting Verizon or Sprint broadband there in town? Thanks.

Sprint doesn't have native service there yet (as of 12/26) but roams very well on Alltel on 1X data.

We were just there and had a Verizon Broadband card that was working. Didn't check it we were on 1X but I believe it was running as usual.

I'm a Cingular guy and their coverage up there doesn't include Broadband...

I think Verizon first needs to get all sites in the area digital

That is an interesting image. AFAIK Verizon has had all their sites with CDMA for years, there should not be analog only Verizon owned sites left anywhere.

Verizon announced that the network was 100% digital in the fall of 2003.

Tuba City, AZ did not go digital until summer of 06
there still another site in CA that still is not digital

This is south of Lava Beds National Monument in Northern CA
Other than that everything I know is digital for the VZW network.

Very interesting! I wonder why Verizon released info that all sites were digital in 2003 and what the hold up was on some of those sites!!!

I bet it's just marketing doing some rounding based on the number of cell sites (99.5%--->100%)

Good point!
Still, though, I don't see an excuse for Verizon still not having all sites CDMA digital...

We were at The Village at Mammoth Mountain. I'm a Cingular customer and had coverage, I just didn't have my Cingular Broadband card with me. The Verizon Card we had did work, I just dont remember how good it was now.

Better late than never, but for all concerned: There is EVDO (Broadband) in Mammoth Lakes. Its coming off of Lincoln Mountain. There is also a new site by the high school. Its Fast, really fast.
