Hello, I have only discovered this site recently, so I am apoligizing ahead of time if this question has been asked before. I tried doing a message search on the topic, but was not very successful. Well, here goes... I currently signed up with AT&T's GSM service. Compared to Cingular (my previous provider), I love AT&T! For whatever reason, Cingular had absolutely no reception in Berkeley, CA (at least where I lived). Anyway, that's not the point. On to the question: When I first signed up with AT&T's GSM service, I was able to send txt messages to my mom in the Philippines. I was also able to receive my mom's txt messages. Recently, however, I lost the ability to send or receive txt messages from the Philippines. I'm not quite sure what happened. Before (when I was able to send and receive txt messages from my the Philippines), all I had to do was type in the long distance code 011 and then her number. And all she had to do was hit reply on her cell phone and that was it. My mom tells me that when she tries to send me a txt message it says "format not supported." Any ideas what happened or what I can do to txt her? Is there any way I can go around the problem? Thanks! |

What phone network is your mother's phone registerd on? For example if you wanted to send a text message to a Voicestream customer you might want to try this format: 10-digit telephone number @ voicestream.net ATT network: 10-digit telephone number @ mobile.att.net Let me know if this works for you. | |

International Text messaging just by mobile number should be working now on AT&T TDMA and GSM. It was soft launched. Call customer care and file a ticket on it, then it will get to my group and we can take a look. If she is getting "format not supported", she may also need to check what format she needs to send SMS back to the US on. Can you still send to her mobile?? |

Hi, I do not know what you mean by "soft launched." And when you mean just by mobile number... does that include the international number? And, no, I can't even send text messages to her. It's quite odd, like what I said in my first post--everything was fine in the beginning. And all of a sudden, I couldn't send or receive txt messages to or from my mom. And to JSPPTY, your method did not work. But thanks very much for the suggestion! I will go ahead and call AT&T when I get home today. Thanks for the help again! |

A soft launch means that didn't promote it or tell anyone, they just turned it on. BTW, I just got my latest bill, and they announced the service in one of the text panels there. CM |

You may have to play with a few different formats. Try the following format: "011" as the prefix instead of "+". For example, to text to the UK enter: 01144<PHONE NUMBER> instead of +44<PHONE NUMBER> Check this link from the AT&T support forum: forums.attwireless.com/attws/board/message?board.id=mmode&message.id=422 Hope this works out for you. |

Once again, thanks for the help. To sybercouch88, my mom is on Globe. And, like what I said on my earlier posts, she WAS able to receive messages from me. And she WAS also able to send messages to me (ones which I was able to receive). But not anymore. My dad talked to a friend of his and she said that the text messaging services to other countries was suspended for the time being. She apparently got her information from her February bill. I've talked to one of the ATT reps at the ATT store, but they knew less than me. Oh well... One more thing, for any ATT reps out there, is it true that international text messaging is now 25 cents a message? |
