I was conducting soccer practice just outside the Rose Bowl tonight and above us a cell site on the light standard in the Rose Bowl stadium was engulfed in flames. It looked like a giant torch. This site is a GSM site for cingular. Too bad since the UCLA/Stanford game is tomorrow expecting 80,000 people. So, so fortunant that this did not happen during the game because large pieces of the site on fire where falling 60 feet down into the stands. Nextel, Verizon and Sprint where not affected, they are on other poles. Looks like cingular, att, and t-mobile customers got BURNED. |

Boy I have a hard time believing this. I know exactly where those towers are all located there at the Rose Bowl. I tend to believe him though as he knew which carriers had cell sites there. Cingular will bring in a few COW's (cell on wheels) I'm sure for tomorrow's game. |

It was the cilinder insulation around the panels that actually burned. Watch the game and the side opposite the press box at the 50 yard line on the light standard above the actual lights in the center you will see torched panels. It used to have a cilinder insulation around the tight clusters of panels. On one of the other forums a guy has great pictures of a full site on fire and he said that is happens more than you think. I think it is hofo.

It's not from the Rose Bowl. I don't think there are any actual photos from that. The one posted is actually a fire that started accidentally while workers were making adjustments on the tower.

Cingular was out at the Rose Bowl today with a crane preparing to repair the site. The picture depicts well what the site look like when on fire, just imagine if the stadium was full with the fire over the crowd. |

I have pics from a Nextel site (was told it was Nextel) that caught on fire on Novemebr 16th. The tower was on Landover Road in PG County near Fed Ex Feild in MD. Pics taken from the Kentland FD. Not sure what other provider is co-located on the site. |

Nextel prefers a 4 panel per sector in Delaware, usually the panels are a darker color too. At least for Kent/NC counties. How are they down there Don?

Normally yes, but some have 2, others have 3 but most have 4. This fire was right behind a fire station that uses Nextel, we know the Cheif over there. That's how I know it was a nextel site. More info here: http://www.kentland33.com/ |
