I was told recently that if one accesses their voice mail by dailing their own phone (then #, access code etc) instead of *86 you will not have any charge against your minute allotment if your plan includes mobile to mobile minutes. Has anyone tried this? Is this true? Thanks for the info. Oppie

I wish that was true, but it isn't. That is the only way I acess my VM and it doesn't tag those calls MM on my bill. Sorry.

I retrieve my voice mail by dialing my own number. On my bill these calls are marked as M2M calls. I guess it varies by market or billing system.

If you dial your own phone # from your cell phone, then it is the same as dialing *86 UNLESS you are in a market where calling your own # charges you M2M. The only way to chek your voicemail for FREE is by calling your own phone # from a landline phone. |

Oppie, It varies not just by market and billing system, but it also varies by plan. It's a double-edge sword. If it DOES go to your M2M minutes, calling V/M during Off-peak hours comes from your M2M minutes, instead of your Off-peak minutes. Of course, this too varies by market AND plan. -Bill |

I know for a fact that if you call you cell # from a different phone, you can wait for your VM to pick up and then press # and enter your code. If you do this then you will not be using any mins. But no matter what you dial from you actual phone, the mins are going to be counted from somewhere

it does vary by billing system, the billing system in so cal currently is the only one that will give you credit for m2m when youdial your cell phone number to get vmail. but a billing conversion is in the process of happening so this will soon no longer be the case but the great news is you can call from any land line and you will not be charged for minutes |
