What's your location? If you go to the WirelessAdvisor main page and enter your zip code you can look for providers that have AMPS listed under system. AMPS is analog. You might have trouble getting one of them to activate it though as they don't make much money, and often loose it, on analog, but those providers would have towers that operate on it.

Why would you want an "analog only" phone? I doubt Verizon will activate it since their new upcoming phones are no longer tri-modes, only dual modes which no longer support analog. | |

AT&T would still activate it, but be prepared to be shocked by the price. For 1 analog customer, they could put 3 digital or 8 GSM subscribers, so you can see the motivation to kill analog in this country.. I think most 850MHz providers, including Verizon would still activate an analog phone. |

Don't feel too bad, Sklettis. I still have my Microtac DPC-550 from AT&T. Why? Because the reception at my house is horrid. All digital service in my area is nearly non-existant. I have standing orders with all my friends. Everytime they change phones or visit my house, they have to tell me if their reception improved. AT&T, Verizon, Sprint, T-Mobile, Nextel. All are less than 50% signal strength. I had a SE T68i and all I ever saw was "No Network". The best reception is Nextel but even that phone drops down to 1-2 bars. Unfortunately, the rates are sickening. I don't use the phone all that much so I got the cheapest plan. I also have the Data connection cables for my laptop. I used to take it with me when I flew to the outer islands here in Hawaii. But since I got a new GSM phone, I only use the Microtac for voice at home. I'm looking into external antenna's for my current phone (Moto T720) but until then, Analog is still the champ at my house. Some more proof Verizon is killing analog. They have the following statement below on their website on the bottom of the page which shows all the phones. The part I have in bold kinds of tells you what I mean. They used to never have that their. Also, there AC plan says you need a tri-mode phone, so I am sure this will chance once dual-band phones are introduced, such as the Samsung A-530. ABOUT NETWORK MODE: Dual-mode phones work on analog and 800 MHz digital networks. Dual-band phones work on both 800 MHz digital and 1900 MHz digital networks. Tri-mode phones work on all three frequencies: 1900 MHz digital, 800 MHz digital or reverting to 800 MHz analog cellular when digital is not available. |

Looks like I will have to get crafty. I'm thinking new phone guts in that old brick phone body. See, I just like the way that phone looks, I really don't care if I have analog or not, just whatever works better for me, you know. Hmmm... new guts, old phone. I like it! |

| sweet! I want one too! everytime I watch an old Hong Kong movie from the mid-80s and see them bust out those babies I start thinking about getting one... i wonder if I could take a phone like that and switch out the insides with something a little more modern... imagine the battery life! you could probably store your lunch inside it too... |
