Default Moving to North Bend, Or.

I am moving in Jan or Feb. 2003 to North Bend, or Coos Bay area of Oregon. I am looking to find the best carrier and phone for the area, as I see, it is a bit isolated out there. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciatedTextMoving from Florida.---Estee

Estee,
Yes, it is a bit of a no-man's land there. But there is one very good carrier that serves the whole area, and also has good national and regional plans: Edge Wireless. They get very good reviews in these newsgroups, and they are an affiliate of AT&T, so signing up with them is like siging up with AT&T. Edge might even be better since they're local.

Make sure the phone you get works in all the places you need it. Even the best carriers have dead spots.

Just FYI, Edge Wireless is in the process of overlaying GSM digital onto all their areas, which currently run TDMA digital at 1900 Mhz. I know for my area, Mendocino County in Northern California, they plan on selling the GSM service and phones starting next summer. Edge Wireless currently serves Northern California, Southern and Central Oregon, SE Wyoming and SE Idaho. By the way, Edge Wireless is really local to North Bend, that's where their HQ is

Estee-

I suggest you look at the Nokia phones, they seem to make the most people happy. The 6360 gets good reviews, I like mine. Too many complaints about poor signal with the 8260, and Nokia has admitted some software problems with the 8260 at 1900MHz, which is what Edge uses. I also concur with BillRadio to go with Edge Wireless, instead of Cellular One or Sprint PCS in that area. Good luck.

Thanks for the info I am currently with AT &T on month to month, I did not want to recontract till I knew what service was located in North Bend--unfortunately I do have the 8260, it functions well here in Florida. I guess I will wait to see how it preforms in Oregon and then make a decision. I will call edge wireless when I get there next month. Thanks so much Estee

Your 8260 will run great on Edge Wireless, just go into their store and they can get you all set up.
