Re: Is there are fast wireless card that can be You may want to check out AT&T
. They have the SE GC83 EDGE PC Modem Card. You can get it for free with a 2 year contract, with their $79.99 unlimited EDGE/GPRS plan.

Re: Is there are fast wireless card that can be Thanks...but it seems that the Edge is so slow....130 is maximum and mostly 75-85....where the Ev-do is 400 but is not international.

Re: Is there are fast wireless card that can be I have heard that with the data compession software that should be included, speeds can get up to 200+ with the card.

Re: Is there are fast wireless card that can be It's rare that you'll find anything faster than GPRS overseas anyway; that runs at 56Kbps (although the latency is very high). At least, this is in my experience--your mileage may vary.
BTW, data roaming isn't included with most data plans. Once you see the international data roaming rates, you may have second thoughts!

I did not know that Roaming internationally was only 56k...poor Europeans....and wi-fi won't work.

Re: Is there are fast wireless card that can be Yup there are so-called UMTS (3GSM) data cards which use the new 3G/UMTS networks here in Europe but it's not 100% built-out yet as UMTS launched commercially earlier this year in places like the UK, Germany, Italy, Sweden and others.

Re: Is there are fast wireless card that can be but it won't work in the U.S. or will it go backwards (whatever the right word is) to use our system?

Re: Is there are fast wireless card that can be ATTWS
has UMTS in 4 cities in the US (including Seattle). However, it operates on a different frequency than in Europe, so it's unlikely that UMTS cards sold there are interoperable with the US system (and vice-versa).

Re: Is there are fast wireless card that can be Correct, in the US UMTS is running at 1900 Mhz whereas in Europe and Japan (Vodafone Japan, not sure about NTT or the other Japanese networks), it's at 2100 Mhz.

Re: Is there are fast wireless card that can be China barely has GPRS and they're just starting to roll out 1xRTT--I was there last month, so trust me on this one.
Japan has UMTS, but it operates on a different frequency than either Europe or the US (as ShoresGuy correctly pointed out). There is, however, a GSM1900 network in place for roamers so GPRS is a viable solution there.
