I don't know if you will read this beore you deceided what to get or not. I just switched from TDMA to GSM (11days so far) and when I am able to connect the sound and quality are great, better than TDMA ever was. When I can't connect, this was a big problem when I first switched, it is very frustrating. The folks at the store in Santa Maria were as helpful as they could be, but the CS reps just don't seem to know what is going on. Last night after waiting almost 2 Hours I finally got through to someone at CS and this guy was a "rock star" he solvedall my problems and today was the first day without any fast busy, or system busy signals. I have 19 days left to really check it out and either return to TDMA or stay with GSM, so far GSM is still in the running.

    I hope this helps someone

    townslo,
If you are in SLO, does AT&Ticon offer TDMA service there? I was under the impression that they were not going to serve the area until they introduced GSM. Was your switch from AT&Ticon TDMA to AT&Ticon GSM, or were you originally with the other TDMA carrier, Cellular One SLO? If you were indeed using AT&T TDMA in SLO, GSM coverage should be exactly the same as TDMA.

If you were with C-1, how did their Customer Service compare to AT&T's?

I had TDMA service in San Luis Obispo but I had a Santa Maria number and used my brothers address in S.M. to sign up. AT&Ticon won't let you sign up for sevice in SLO unless you sign up for GSM that is why I used the info for S.M. The TDMA service was great in SLO but I wanted to be able to use the phone in other states without changing to a higher priced TDMA plan. I have had AT&Ticon since 2000 and besides an occasional problem with C.S. they have been great.

    Hope this helps

Yes, I started with AT&Ticon TDMA so don't know how C-1's service is. I have lived here for 10 years and still don't know anyone who has C-1.

AT&Ticon has bought a lot of Cell One's, but not Cell One SLO, they were asking too much. So AT&Ticon GSM is just going in and will take away their roaming and their customers. AT&Ticon will be getting Cell One (aka Dobson) in Merced and Madera areas, look for that to close later this year. GSM coverage probably won't be up til early 2004, though.
