I currently live at UC Riverside and am currently using sprint with an LG1010 phone.
For a while I had no problems with reception and had at least 1 bar even in my room. Now I get no signal what so ever
unless i walk all the way towards the center of campus which is pretty far from where I live. I also read on other message boards that this phone has some sort of defect. Is this true? Is it the service that's bad or the phone?

I get the feeling it is your phone....but that's just my opinion.

From what I hear the LG1010 is currently Sprint's worst phone that they sell. I've heard of a lot of defects and problems with that phone. My guess would be that it's the phone.

Could be the phone but you can't rule out the network either. Test another phone or ask someone else there with Sprint if they have the same problem.

You could have a tech look at it to give you a more definitive answer. However going by the number of dissatisfied 1010 users and the known and documented issue with LG1010 phones, chances are its your handset. There is a huge manufacturers defect with that phone which causes it to have little or no signal at all. It eventual dies and just searches for service nonstop.
