I was just in the area of Beach Blvd. & the 22 freeway near Westminster/Garden Grove to check out an antenna located behind the Phillips tire center that was pointed out to me by 714tmobile. Turns out that this site was a Nextel site that has been there for about two years that I know of. But the big surprise came when I was about to get back on the Eastbound 22 and noticed another tree antenna that was right behind the Morada Inn and Pizza Hut on Garden grove Blvd. (Can't be seen too well from the freeway). The site is still under construction and hasn't been turned on yet. I wasn't able to ID which carrier it will be for but I can rule out Nextel and Verizon. That leaves Sprint, Cingular/T-mobile, and AT&T GSM as the candidates. From what it looked like to me it will be for Sprint. But I noticed I already had a decent signal with Sprint, (3 bars) in the area so why would they need this one? Cingular also has a few sites within a mile of this one. I don't know about AT&T. This will be very interesting. I'm hoping of course that it will be Sprint. : |

By the way larry... do you know of the closest cell to that intersection for Cingular/T-Mobile? The only one I know of is Knott/Goldenwest and Garden Grove blvd.

Yes there's another Cingular/T-Mobile site right off the freeway near Magnolia & the 22. If traveling West bound (towards Long Beach) you can see it off to the right somewhere around Magnolia but not exactly. So the suspense begins! If I get a chance to get right up close to it I should be able to make a postive ID. Or simply ask the workers to tell me. It looks like it will be a Sprint site but it is slighty different than most Sprint palm trees. If it is Cingular/GSM then it will be the first time I can remember Cingular using this type of tree. They have another palm tree antenna at the 91 & Kramer Blvd. in Anaheim but that looks totally different and has the old 3 "H" style panels that Cingular normally uses. If it's AT&T then it will be a GSM only site. Noramlly they're sites have both the TDMA panels and GSM panels. This one does not fit that profile |

Oh, right by the high school... Cingular/T-Mobile needs to put a site close to that intersection...perhaps on the Walmart/Lowes sign

I had 4 bars right in front of the WalMart yesterday so maybe this won't be a Sprint site afterall.

Hey 714tmobile, I just postively identified the new site as being for Cingular/T-Mobile! That ought to make you happy. I'm a little down but I guess they needed it more. |

They may have turned it on for testing purposes but the site has not been completed yet. My guess is about two weeks to go.

I wonder if they're going to turn the power up a lil on it. I hope so I got full bars going down the street, but the signal was still weak in my home (a little better, but not great) Good news is I get service outside my house now |
