Hi, I live in Southern California and will soon be switching to Verizon (from AT&T). Which phone would you recommend? (I don't need anything fancy, I'll only be using it as a phone). Thanks for your input!! Chenin |

I do not think you can go wrong with Motorola. Just depends whether you want a clamshell or not.

Easiest choice for the best price is the Kyocera 2235. My wife has it, and got it after trying a few other phones out first. It does everything you'd like, including voice dialing. -Bill |

It all depends on what you want. Flip phones will always be more expensive. Motorola v120c (candybar)- Poor design, can't hear out of it because the volume doesn't go up that high, the software hinders the ERI in some of the older versions. Antenna breaks off very easily but Motorola will replace it for you for free if you bring it into a store. Verizon recently discontinued this model and replaced it with the 120e. Motorola v120e (candybar)- They altered the design a little and made it 1x capable. No complaints received. Kyocera 2253(candybar)- Have only heard one complaint on this phone and that is you cannot change the face plate. All in all good phone. Audiovox 9155 (candybar)- No complaints. Some people think Audiovox is a cheap phone however I find that a lot of people really love how easy the programming is and it gets great reception. There are a lot of die-hard Audiovox customers who trade in their old audiovox for the newest version. Nokia 3285 (candybar)- Poor reception. One user found it difficult to use, however the programming that nokia uses is extremely easy. LGVX10 (flip)- Good upgrade from the 510 that was recently discontinued. Most people really like this phone and the only bad things I have heard about it are on this forum. Battery life lasts longer than the 510 I have heard... Samsung a310 (flip)- Not as popular, however I have heard wonderful things about it. Customers who have this phone really like it. However because it is not as popular, Verizon has a nasty habit of discontinuing phones that don't sell well instead of advertising them @ sale prices. Motorola T720 (flip)- Have heard alot of mixed reviews. This phone is slick with color screen and uber features. The battery life is not like some of its predecessors, the audio isn't loud enough for some of our customers who have hearing problems. Very clear color screen though. Nice looking phone, good reception. Motorola v60i (flip)- The 60c replacement, the 60i has not had as many complaints. The only complaint I have heard is the antenna. Verizon wireless Z-800 made by sharp, technical support provided through audiovox (flip)- Only complaint I have heard is it had problems with Brew. Has a color screen as well. Please be advised if you choose the Sony Ericsson 61, the Audiovox 8100, Audiovox mp3... these phones are sold exclusivly through agents. Verizon will not honor the warranty on them because they have never sold the phone and you have to go through the tedious task of trying to get your dealer to replace it or seeing if the manufacturer will replace it. Good luck, Vene |

i replaced my startac with the motorola v60i and i love it. i have not had any problems with it at all. i have actually noticed an increase in performance over my startac. in my house i used to get 1 bar of strength with my startac and now have 2 with the v60i. most importantly i have yet to have a drop call with v60i. sometimes i couldn't even use my startac in my house among other places because i would loose the call. not with the v60i. plus the voice dialing, external caller ID, and all the other stuff it comes with are really nice features that anyone will love having even if you aren't a phone guru. so if you don't mind paying a little more and getting some extras that you probably won't use i highly recommend the v60i. hope this helps.

On the v120e they also made the rings and the earpiece volume louder, and it has the new games (5 total), the fixed antenna (No more breakage), better battery life, and better ringtone sounds with the new v60i style composer. They also changed the screen so it looks better in direct sunlight. My only complaint with this phone at all is that the backlight doesn't seem to be as bright as the 120c my wife has. The 3285 I had never had a problem, the reason I returned it is that Verizon locked out the ringtone capabilities and the phone no longer ships with the vibrating battery. The signal strength was not quite as good as my 120e but nowhere near as bad as my v60c ir my z-800. The Samsung A-310 I have never owned but I know others that have. Out of 11 people I know that had it, all of them but 1 returned it and said it was the worst phone they had ever owned. The T720 seems to be a love or hate it kind of deal. Either you get one with no problems or you get one that is a total nightmare. Out of all of them I would recommend the 120e.

Wow!! I must have a rarity or something!! I hear so much how you cannot hear out of this phone or the ringer is too low. All I know is I've never had a problem hearing a conversation ("Can you hear me now?") & my ringer on loud mode can be heard in my backpack walking through Disneyland on a crowded day! My antenna rarely had to be extended because I get full signal even when it's retracted. I've heard the problems with it so I just remain careful with it. I can't say enough good things about this phone...I'm interested to see the difference with the 120e. | |
