Default Mobile ringtones monopoly

Well, my Verizon contract is expiring soon and I'm thinking about switching to another operator. It seemed there's no good way to buy any ringtones outside of Verizon from content sources like Leapwave.com or others whose contents are offered to customers of other carriers. So before I make a switch, can someone who has experience with buying ringtones elsewhere pls tell me if it would be worth switching to a GSM operator like cingular or tmobile

Honestly, I feel switching to any carrier and leaving Verizon will be best when it comes to Ringtones. That is the one thing I will fault Verizon for and that is their GIN services SUCK!. Especially, when it comes to ringtones. Customers should always have the option to go and get ringtones from where they want. Cingular, T-Mobile and Sprint will give you the best options for sites for getting ringtones.

I know Sprint isn't GSM, but I had Sprint for a while and I was thrilled with all the options of sites I can choose from that I found on the web to get ringtones.

Yeah VZW is a little strict about where you get your ringtones from. You can however use a data cable and get them free off the web.

If you are switching to another carrier for ringtone ability, make sure you get good wireless phone service too. That's the most important thing. Otherwise, you'll have cool ringtones with a phone that never rings. LOL

I've been successful in getting ringtones from the web onto my VZW phone through the vzwpix.com. I download the ringers to my HD, then upload them to vzwpix.com. Then I email them to my phone and VOILA!! New ringtones...

Yeah I've done that too. Since I use the A670, I went to www.eringers.com and downloaded some tones there and then sent them to my phone thru th vzwpix.com. It was cool. Doing it that way, if they have the tones you want, then you can get like 6 to 9 tones for 25 cents. lol

Actually, I've learned if you have the $2.99/20 pix package, you don't get charged the 25 cents...they come from your 20 pix...I've been doing it this way and not getting any extra charges on my bill!!

With Sprint you can download free ring tones from a number of sites and some of them sound really good. However I noticed with the newer phones (ie Samsung A680) the web browsers are a little more picky and some of those free sites no longer work when I try to download some freebies. But with my old A500 I could download from any site. Now I have a more limited choice but there's still plenty to pick from.

Honestly, I think leaving a carrier just for free ringtones is silly. Of course, I have but one downloaded ringer anyway...the University of Florida fight song.

How do you get the ringtones after you send them to your phone? All it sends me is a link to the website.

I go that website in question and I "drag and drop" the ringtone link to my harddrive. The download saves on my HD as a MIDI. I then upload it to vzwpix.com and mail it to my phone from there...I've been successful every time I've done it this way...

Lightbulb Re: Mobile ringtones monopoly

Absolutely! Anyone that is self centered enough to leave no options to their customer does not deserve your business. I have free ringtones and software on my site you may wish to try on your phone before switching though. Just click # 4 on the phones' keypad at my site and you will find what you need. If this does not help just email me at wirelessadvisor@cosmicell.com and I will send more options for you. Please let me know of your findings.
You are going to find problems with any carrier out there but I will give my carrier from sprint the credit they deserve for their many options on the PCS vision plan.
