Hi, I have a phone from cingular and I'm not so satisfied with it. I wanted to know if it is possible for me to buy a Motorola i830 phone and use it with cingular? I know that the i830 is offered by Nextel, but is there a way I can transfer the phone to be used with my Cingular service? Give me any step that's possible, and I'll try it. |

There is no way that an iDEN handset like the Motorola i830 will interoperate with Cingular's GSM or TDMA networks. Wrong modulation, wrong frequencies too. iDEN only works on Nextel, Boost prepaid, and Southern Linc (Alabama, Georgia, and the Carolinas). You'll need to choose another phone to remain on Cingular, one that's dualband 800 and 1900 MHz GSM most likely. I use the Nokia 6340i you see pictured at the left, since December 2001. Works darn near anywhere with the GAIT National plan (seemingly now unavailable). My daughter is happy with a Nokia 3595 and the GSM National plan, about 10 months now. My wife is using a Samsung x427 now since last month, with her GAIT SIM. (GSM service only on a GSM only phone.) COtech
