They are great if, you want a landline replacement and would have good signal at your house, I do not think the coverage is good enough to use as an everyday phone, driving around town, the coverage is spotty in the Bay area, and is only in Phase 1 deployment, Sacto is supposed to be better, you will have to pay to roam.

Their web site shows all of No. CA in your home area. No roaming and no long distance. Customer service is weak but the price is great. They now are selling the Kyocera 1155, Sony Ericsson and the new Nokia 3585. I have 4 for my business near Sacto. Bukzin |

From my other post: I've been using MetroPCS for the last almost two months. I've put about 30 hours on my Sony Ericsson T206. I like the service so far. I had some problems with it on Wednesday and Thursday, but they seemed to have cleared up. Yup, all NorCall calls are free of long distance charges. You can't roam with your phone (for free that is) -- basically you can use your phone in your area. So if you're in the Sacto area you can't come here to the SF area and use your phone. I've been hearing that the roaming charges off their network are quite high. Here's my Review of the service in the SF Bay Area. And if you're interested, here's my Review of the Sony Ericsson T206. |

The MetroPCS site shows a coverage map that says all of Northern CA is in your 'home calling area'. It seems to be working that way. If so this would make calling for folks in Nor Cal very cheap! Bukzin |

I haven't been in Cupertino in a while. Where abouts are you in Cupertino? Like around Homestead High or around Apple? I have used the phone at Vallco Mall and it worked great there. I've also used it around the Sunnyvale shopping center (OK, that's a bit far) and the Sunnyvale Fry's (OK, that's even farther). |

I work near Deanza college and travel up in the hills near Stevens Creek and Foothill Rd. Do you know if it works around there? Or, do you think you could test it out there for me? Thanks |

Well, I really don't get up to that part of the woods that often. The coverage map that MetroPCS puts up on their website is really conservative and I've found that my phone works in a lot more places than is listed there. Go to a good dealer and buy a phone and try it out is what I can suggest. MetroPCS has a thing where if you don't put too many minutes on the phone (I can remember the exact number) then you can return the phone for a full refund -- and the first month is free, so you don't lose anything for trying it out.
