anyone know how the att gsm coverage will compare with the current cingular/t-mobile coverage in the bay area? i'm with att right now, waiting for the sept/oct gsm rollout, but i'm considering switching to t-mobile now when i can get out of the contract. from what i understand the current cingular/t-mobile service isn't spectatular, and i'm wondering if atts will be better. so basically should i hold out for better att gsm serivce or make the switch to t-mobile?

Well, I would go with Cingular... Ive gone all over Central SF from Daly City and have little problem. Plus, I think that as well as T mobile, At&T gsm will be powered by Cingular because of agreements in Washington... Funny, huh???

I'd say Cingular do suck a bit if you're living anywhere remote from downtown. The reception in outer Mission to Geneva really suck! Calls being drop, bad or no reception, etc. |

AT&T is building their own GSM network in California. As far as GSM ONLY, it's much smaller right now than T-Mobile/Cingular.

There is nothing wrong with the T-Mobile/Cingular network. In fact, T-Mobile received higher than expectation for the network performance aswell as new customers for their recent launch in the Cali area. None of AT&T's GSM coverge is as extensive as Voicestream (T-Mobile). Check the map, AT&T's GSM everywhere is very small. |

And just to reiterate: ATT is NOT using Cingular's network. Chris is probably correct, right now in CA, ATT's GSM coverage may be smaller. But that will change.

Actually, for the above post, your both right. At&t will be SLOWLY making their own gsm network, But Cingular will be helping them asimulate over...(was that spelled, right?).... It's already being done in washington state.....

I'd go with Cingular or T-Mobile if you want GSM coverage. Right now AT&T's GSM coverage is very small.

Rg that, Att will still be one of the leaders in the industry because of thier capital, and Singular cuts out all the time. GSM will be the future of ATT wireless. Coverage sucks now.

The new Ericsson T68i is a rocken phone, anyone hate it, and why. The US is always behind in this world, far behind. Go with GSM if you want to travel overseas, its the world leader, plus it has wideband tech, so thats a ton more applications. Blue Tooth is pretty cool also, but Sony Ericsson cant make the cool accessories fast enough.
