Verizon and Alltel are the best choices for complete coverage

verizon

but be prepared, expecially if you are not used to travelling here...we have some tourist that seem to think they should get a signal everywhere, including long stretches of highway and mountain passes. Doesn't really work that way.

Don't mean to sound snide, but it's an honest misconception.

I'd have to agree with Jack, Verizon and ALLTEL are your 2 best choices.

Go to www.mountainwirelesss.com, Bill Radio, a frequent poster in here, runs it and I am sure between his site and asking him you can make the right choice.

I also live here in Arizona and agree with the others either Alltel or Verizon will be your best bet the states you have mentioned. Definately check out Bills website "He da man" as for Arizona coverage his ratings are right on, cannot comment on the other states since I have not recently visited. I use Verizon here in the Phoenix area and have been happy with the coverage.

I blush with these comments! But for further info, I will also direct you to the web page that has all these cellular carriers coverage:

Western US Coverage maps.

The ideal plan for you is the Verizon Single Rate West plan, which allows free LD and roaming across 12 western states from NM, CO, WY, MT, westward. If you sign up with Verizon, they will tell you that plan is unavailable, which will be true. But go ahead and sign up for the America's Choice plan which misses 2 counties in CO, 2 in UT, and most of E. Central NM, and a bunch of chunks in NW & SE AZ off the main highways.

THEN, call back and ask to be switched to the Single Rate West plan. Their rule is it is only available to existing customers. The second time you call, you are an existing customer! If for any reason you can't do this, and/or you don't like the America's Choice plan, you can cancel the whole shebang within 15 days.

Sprint PCS will not give you continuous coverage across this region, and they have no service in MT.
